Prof.PretzelThere are ski and non-ski gabber forums for a reason.
L0gicYes this site is based around skiing, something we all have in common, but NS isn't just a site. It's a community. That brings along other things than just skiing.
Yung_AfterbangYeah, i understand this, but when I see someone's opinion on politics on the home page, it pisses me off a little bit.
Yung_AfterbangCant people just find a politics forum to discuss political views though? thats just something that it going to spark up controversy. especially with a bunch of ski rats haha

Jerome.The.LlamaThis is why we have a ski related and non-ski related forums. If you don't want to look at peoples political views, thoughts on world events and religion it's as simple as not going on the forum.
By the way 'Yung Afterbang', are you 12?
ANUSTARTu seem like you could use a doobie or two

john18061806I see that you were mad about the cultural appropriation article. NS is full of people pretending to know more than they do, actually I guess the world is too. The people who actually know about a topic rarely speak and are often overshadowed by ideas that aren't backed up with evidence or experience.
Personally, I love watching this shit go down! It entertains me on the most boring of days.

UglyboyYou do realise NSG threads don't pop up on the home page? So you're completely lying when you say it pisses you off when they're on the home page...
Yung_AfterbangI'm 100% positive I saw an article on cultural discrimination in the skiing world. On the homepage yesterday, believe it or not.
Sketchy3sDon't believe it.
Sketchy3sThat's interesting how that got there I (partially) see your point.

Mr.BishopThese two comments are related.
@L0gic - You hit the nail on the head here. As a philosophy for the site, we haven't gone in the direction of mainstream social media, where you get a feed of content that is only in relation to the friends/brands/media you choose to follow. Hate something? You can hide that post, unfollow that person, whatever.
Here at Newschoolers we made the decision to be a community. Sure its a community with opinions that not everyone agrees with, but its all based off of voting so you have your own democratic way of stating how the site will look on any given day.
@Yung_Afterbang - I really get what you're saying. Personally I rage quit facebook or unfriend someone the instant I see something political... and I've fallen into the same trap where I've said something that blew up my feed and instantly regretted it. Seeing politically driven articles on Newschoolers isn't exactly what I hope is the best stuff that makes it out there... but I am strongly in favor of keeping ourselves as completely open media where as a community we decide what we promote and what we don't. I believe that traditional ski media has fallen really into the trap of writing about the same people over and over, and about the same topics. I want this to be a place where everyone has a shot at getting their content featured on the homepage.
So, would I choose this as a featured article? No, I downvoted it. However the amount of discussion that blew up in there and the mixture of up/down votes it got pushed it up the homepage for a period of time.
The article did bring up some interesting points, and related them to skiing - whether I agree with it or not is another question - but its definitely been a debate that has flourished on here time and time again. I like that people have a platform to be heard, and I think its good for skiing.
My recommendation is to stay away from stuff you don't like. NSG is political as all hell, and every so often one of these opinions might sneak into an article - but if you find yourself getting angry just do what I do - exit the said piece of content and go hang out somewhere that makes you happy.
Yung_AfterbangThanks for the response Bishop, I completely agree with you! Now I understand the fact that newschoolers is more than a site; it's a community. I will just try my best to stay away from the political aspect of the site and just keep it to skiing!
johnblazewhat bugged me other than the content of that post the other day is that the guy posting has no skiing pictures or videos uploaded. He has nothing to contribute other than his asshole.. i mean opinion.
ColeLaCrackWho really cares (besides you)? Tf you want to talk about skiing then talk about skiing in ski related threads. Its not like you have click on the non ski gabber threads...
Sketchy3sIf you would have read through the posts you would have seen that it was on main page, not in non-ski gabber. Look around a bit before you make an uneducated post.
ColeLaCrackThat would still require OP to click on the thread and read through it. Fuck off Jr. Einstein .
Yung_AfterbangLately, iv'e seen many articles and threads that are politic, religion, worldly, etc related, and I can't be the only one who's sick of hearing someone else's opinion on bullshit like that. Can we please use this site what it's made for? what do y'all think?

ColeLaCrackNo the conversation was about this.
ColeLaCrackOk well my response was directed at the OP's original post.
Yung_AfterbangWell if you took the time to read through the comments, you would have realized that my original post was misguided.
plyswthsqrrlsguys I really think people stopped giving a fuck about 10 posts up
dustygoldflakesBruh Ski-Gabber is for ski talk and Non-ski gabber is for everything else. Just avoid non-ski gabber if you're sick of it
Yung_AfterbangYou know what? that's a good point, my name is really childish. i should probably change it to something cool and mature, something like, Jerome.The.Llama maybe?
