I'm going to have to disagree with you. Yes throwing down on an urban rail is better and more impressive but if you can throw down on a tech rail then most likely you can throw down on an urban rail.

park rails are almost never that tech. And the ammount of skill/dedication put in to getting an urban shot cant be compared with a park rail.

but you cannot expect everybody to make a 2 minute edit of straight urban... a few good urban shots can make an edit for sure, but park rails should not be belittled because its not in the streets

dub post but just re-watched every finalist edit and heres my take imo:

-Siggers went huge and made a quality edit but the only way i see him having a chance of winning is if carinthia somehow makes their setup as backcountry orientated as snoqualmie made it last year.

-Ben Smith is getting no credit and had arguably the most technical tricks with style.

-Jonah Williams used his left over footage, but he's just really fricking good

-Gabe does have that weird and generic arm swing, but his creativity and hand drags were insane. I think he will fit right in with level 1, although there were no urban shots

-Alec Nelson... i watched his edit a few times. by far my favorite, 4 on shift blind 2 couldn't have been cleaner. Plus those tricks he put in on that backcountry (hood??) kicker were really dope.

-Wagstrom got through to finals with his lsm style. Solid edit but i feel like a few semi finalists could have easily took his spot.

-Kazakov had a good mix of urban and backcountry but he didn't bring anything special to the table.

Swadburg's style was really nice, i enjoyed his edit. Im not sure if he has too great of a chance of winning, but anything could happen.

-Geoff put out one of the best urban edits I've ever seen. That edit could hold its own in a level 1 film. I think he has one of the better chances.

in conclusion, there was no edit that could stand up to brower's edit last year, but i think the field is stacked throughout this year

I can and do expect that. Rarely does level 1 film park rails in there movies. I can see having park jumps in your edit to prove you can perform at the shoots. But imho the rails should be urban...

It used to be urban/street in almost all of the edits. Now its doubles. That was a really sad realization...

When are people going to realize that winning doesn't hinge on their performance at the park shoot? The edit is still the main factor in choosing the winner. I mean look at last year, Magnus wasn't the best at the park shoot but he had the illest video and that's what counted.

this is true but i always was under the assumption that the park shoot was more important than the edit. but hey you won super unknown so i gotta take your word for it

That's correct, and they vote with a heavy weight on the video. The park shoot is more of an avenue of exposure for 10 ams and a means of creating video content than a contest. Save that shit for the Olympics.

A lot of places didn't get a lot of snow this year, unless you were in New England. I think that's why we're seeing a lot more park stuff in the edits this year than in previous years.
