rozboonI think the parents and coaches need to shoulder a bit of the blame here. A lot of racer kids basically get told that they are superior to everyone else and so they act like that. I was going up a chair once with a coach and a couple of kids and they spent the whole ride up laughing at other skiers technique. I mean yeah as a coaching method it might make sense to point out examples of different types of skiing but these guys were just being bitchy dicks.
But you can't tar them all with the same brush - I have a cousin who is a top level racer and he's completely chill. In fact sometimes I think he's kinda embarrassed about the attitude of some racers and the way they treat other skiers.
skisocksRacers think that park skiing isnt "real" skiing, We park skiers dont think that racing is'nt "real" skiing. So What the fuck is real skiing?
Might sound cliche but I dont think skiing is even a sport. Becuase no one is better than anyone. Some peole have a better style or technique Its an "art" where everyone has a uniqe style. Whether your touring the BC, bashing gates or hiking the park.
Its like classical music enthusiast saying hip hop isnt music, or vise versa.
The real competition is to have the most fun.
/end rant
CoreyTrevorSkiers can no doubt go down a race course faster, have better form around gates and likely all around the mountain. But can they ski switch, hit jumps and rails with style, or huck the shit off of cliffs? I always consider all this when they act like better skiers. but then again, my whole life is the game of GNAR and I talk shit all day on the mountain, so I'm not one to talk for the pot calling the kettle black.
ADRIA-T.PIMPRace courses and terrain parks are both artificial constructs. People have a whole mountain open to them and they lock themselves into small sections of it for large parts of their ski lives. Then they meet someone else who skis another small section of the mountain (the park) and they put out hate. You'd think they'd have more in common they do in animosity, but I'm sure a lot of racers should/could ski park pretty well if they tried but have been made to believe it's inferior (and vice/versa with park skiers going into racing.)
Check out Slalom Tokyo Drift if you want to see vids of racing falls (there's some gnarly shit.) Personally, if I was skiing in some area and I was more concerned about falling and how to avoid it, then I'd come to the conclusion that the area wasn't right for me.
kryptonicWho gives a flying fuck. FUCK ski racers honestly. They literally (atleast where I'm from) think they own the mountain and are really cocky. Not gonna lie, not all of them are bad but most of them im not a fan of. I could not care less about ski racing though. To me skiing in the park and all mountain even skiing in general is about having freedom and going your own path and just enjoying it. Ski racing you have all these stupid rules, things you can and can't do, and to me that's not skiing sorry. But if ski racers aren't nice to you tell them to take their gay liatard suits and go fuck themselves.
TRVP_ANGELThey beat me with their Fischer poles and I was crying the whole time :'(

SEABURNgonna have to disagree. Park Skiing is a subjectively judged sport with numerical criteria. Racing is very much a sport, all about them times.
Park skiing & Racing both have assholes, like any competitive sport. They're different, any reasonable person would say both are difficult and impressive at the highest level. I have a ton of respect for people who have excelled at both, like Jon Olsson.
Does anyone know of a skier that did both at the same time? Jon did freestyle, then Racing... anyone who was at the top of both at the same time?
