Sketchy3sHonestly I don't understand why I have gotten so much negativity from racers just for being a park skier. I'm not saying all racers are this way but nearly all of them believe that their type of skiing is the best. Why is this? Aren't we all just doing what we enjoy?

JiggleMy past experiences with racers has lead me to believe that most of them (not all) are generally uber-competitive elitist kids who ski in skin tight clothing and actually care about how fast they can turn around a bunch of poles. Therefore anything they say should not be considered too seriously. I think one of the reasons that racers look down on park skiers is that they simply don't understand why we slide down metal tubes for fun, the same way we don't understand why they turn around poles for fun.
EvanMeyerbut theyre usually not having fun turning around those poles, have you ever seen a nastar course on race day? its fucking hilarious parents screaming at the top of their lungs telling their kids to ski better, dads standing in the staging areas doing every possible thing they can to turn the kids skis in hopes of making them faster its a joke it reminds me of little league baseball or some shit where the parents desperately want to relive their glory years through their kids when in actuality the kids want to kill themselves and their parents.

MLJI dunno, I personally enjoy the occasional pole bash, and the other guys on my team really enjoy it as well. Maybe you just know people that take it too seriously?
EvanMeyerI know some racers who are 10 times more badass than any park/freeride skier I know.

Mr.BishopIts simple: They're spending the whole day doing restrictive drills in skin suits. You are spending your whole day jumping, having a blast and wearing comfortable clothing.
If they were to admit you were a skier too, it would make everything they are doing silly.
Just ignore it. I quit racing because of how fucking serious everyone was a very long time ago, and it was the best thing I ever did. Riding the park is fun as shit, and you can become every bit as good of a skier over time.
BROCOI race for my school simply to get a sport credit and so I can ski more. I really try to have fun with it and not take it too seriously; I race in my chronics and I cannot tell you how much I hear racers talk crap about me behind my back. It is insane how entitled some kids are and how much negativity they have. Obviously not everybody is like that but they are definitely in the majority. I just think it is funny when I get the same times as them with beat twin tips and they shut up.

Big_MtnI raced USSA and took it seriously, but also had fun... I also did school races and those are a complete joke (I have friends that would ski them switch). I didn't even use race skis or wear a speed suit. The people that take school racing seriously are usually not even any good and their parents don't tell them the truth and the actually think they are good.

kryptonicWho gives a flying fuck. FUCK ski racers honestly. They literally (atleast where I'm from) think they own the mountain and are really cocky. Not gonna lie, not all of them are bad but most of them im not a fan of. I could not care less about ski racing though. To me skiing in the park and all mountain even skiing in general is about having freedom and going your own path and just enjoying it. Ski racing you have all these stupid rules, things you can and can't do, and to me that's not skiing sorry. But if ski racers aren't nice to you tell them to take their gay liatard suits and go fuck themselves.
Titus69Every time I asked my dad how his day at the hill was its either good or "the race team had 4 courses setup around the mountain" which is true, they do that all the time and their on the runs people like the most and my mountain has about 23 trails so its a bitch when they do.
Titus69THIS. I raced from 4th grade to 7th grade for my mountain then raced freshmen and sophomore year in high school. In the time I did get better as a skier but I hated all the serious kids that had to win and had to have 3 pairs of thousand dollar race skis, while all this was going on my park buddies just skiied every weekend and got good at park and skiing in general with no serious racing experience at all...THEY JUST HAD FUN. So basically I wasted 4 seasons of skiing icey courses, hating my life and skiing about 3-5 hours of park a weekend.
My perfect example is my friend who started skiing in 8th grade he only went about 7 times that season, 9th grade already doing flats and backies, 10th grade he was doing 5's, rodeos, etc now were both in 11th and he is almost up to par with the "good kids" of the hill on jumps with good flip game and fun rail tricks and you know what.....He was skiing big runs at Alta with me no problem. Racing just gets you better faster but the process sucks ass. If the racers stay away from our park and not get mad when we cut them off, like at my mountain I'll stay away from their ice course of hell and we'll be happy.
I_Bohrmannthe only good thing about racing is you get to hang around girls in spandex suits
john18061806they have no souls, they are creatures of the underworld.

filthywenchSki racing is aids.
p00npatrolthis is precisely the sunny attitude that makes friends.
also, nice try completely redefining skiing. the word skiing literally means sliding around on skis...like you do when your SKI racing.
an_suckI think little racer kids like to shoot off the sides of rail jumps cause they want to actually have fun instead of being forced to race by their fame wanting parents ha. All the same the it tears the jumps down pretty friggin fast..
kryptonicYou must be a racer. So if that's the attitude skit acres don't like then I'll keep it up because there is no way is hell I'd want to be friends with a guy in a spandex suit.
p00npatrolcaught me! keep judging people by what they wear skiing. that'll get you far
everything about racing is "sooper ghey" you can't enjoy more than one type of skiing. don't even try. skiing is all about limiting your options
