Canon 24-105 f4L vs canon 24-70 f4L?

Video or stills?

The 24-105 f/4 is very soft, but if your only doing video this wont be as much of an issue at 1080p. The 24-70 f/4 is probably sharper, but less range, so if you don't own a tele I would get the 24-105.

Yeah, for video the 24-105 is one of my favourite lenses and something I miss about Nikon (the Nikon 24-120 is junk). For Photography, it's more just a decent general purpose option that's built well. I've never used the 24-70 f4, but I've also never really understood the reasoning behind it (Is it just because it's lighter and smaller than the other standard L zooms?). It's also like 1000$+ right? Whereas you can get the 24-105 for a lot less, and get the extra range out of it.

Also looking at lenses. What do you guys think of the 70-200 F4 USM (No IS)? I would be using it for both film and photography.

I mean, it's good, but in your budget range, I'd personally rather save 100 or so and have the extra stop of performance from say, a Tokina 80-200 f2.8.

It's still plenty fucking sharp.

Seriously, people get so fucking ridiculous about 'sharpness'. Yeah, at 24mm and f4 it's soft-ish in the corners... but everywhere else it's perfectly great. Compared to the 24-70 it's negligible as far as I'm concerned.

The only things you'll have to worry about are size and weight. Yeah, it has distortion, but that's easily correctable because it's pretty non-complex. Lightroom has a bunch of lens corrections for it built right in, and distortion this minimal is a non-factor in videography, since it's all about character when it comes to motion.

Just get the 24-105, and if you can, spend the difference on a prime lens or wide angle...
