So I've demoed some kartels and i loved them. Probably gonna get a pair. I was thinking about getting some Kartel 98s for my park all mountain ski and keep my Yles for my all mtn pow ski. But then i got thinking. Should I sell the Yles and get the 106 as my do it all ski. I don't do a whole lot of rails, but i jump quite a bit.

Basically, how well do the 106s float compared to yles. Yles are fatter (at 118) but don't have a munch pronounced rocker. Im also a pretty small guy (5'7 130 pounds) and I'm currently 16 so ill be growing but not that much. My dad is also 5'10 and 160 so I won't get very big so i don't need a ton to keep me afloat. I don't get a whole lot of pow days. This year I got about 5, and only 3 were "deep".

I don't really want to sell my Yles, but with not a lot of fresh days this year, I'm feeling that i don't need that fat of a ski. The last thing i want to do is have 2 skis and only ski pretty much one pair. So I'm thinking i maybe should go with a "one ski quiver". Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Also i might have some YLES for sale that are signed by Wiley himself haha.

I'd get the 98s and keep your yles. The 98s will do better than the 106s in the park, and the yles will do better than the 106s in the pow. If you can afford it, just expand your quiver, don't replace.

The thing is that I don't do a lot of park. I just dont want a bunch of skis laying around. I don't necessarily need to expand my quiver, that's why I'm kind of wanting to replace it.

i think a one ski quiver is only preferable for the sake of your wallet, and that won't help much in your case. who cares if you don't use your fat skis very much? you already have them, you'll gain some measly amount of money selling them and then wish you had them on the days that necessitate them

id say go with the first plan, keep the YLEs and buy some high 90s waisted skis for everything else. that's what i do, 98 waist for park/all mtn and 115s for pow and touring and i think it's perfect

honestly even with a ton more money i wouldn't expand it i don't think.. maybe some GS skis for shitty groomer days but that's different

If you want a single ski to take up any day of the week, and ski anywhere, I'd get the 106s.

If you are happy skiing your YLE's on those 4-6in days and want an all mountain park ski for other days get the 98s.

The 106 will obviously have some sacrifice with regards to swing weight. I think if park performance trumps soft snow performance go with the 98s. If the utility of the ski appeals to you get the 106s.

Definitely keep the Yles and get the 98. I have the 98's and love em, but that's not the reason I'm telling you to get them. You even said yourself that you don't need much to keep you afloat. Why would you sell a pair of nice pow skis for next to nothing and get a pair of skis that ski pow and hit jumps pretty well when you could have a ski that excels in pow and one that excels in park, but still is a great all mountain ski.

I don't know. It's like you want to buy a sedan because of the mpg's, but you need a big truck to carry stuff and you already have one. Don't sell them both and get a Subaru, just buy the sedan. The truck is worth way less than what you payed for it (Subaru's are kinda sick tho, that was probably not the best analogy).

I demoed them and did some tricks off the jumps around the mountain,the swing weight wasn't bad at all, especially coming off of a 118 waist ski. To give you an idea of the kind of skiing I do, I ski at pebble creek, Sander Hadleys home mountain. So the same type of skiing just mellower. Like i said, I like the feel of a fatter ski, but from time to time its just a little too much.

Keep the yles, get the 98s.

IMO pow skis are worth it even of they only get a few days of use a year. I have way too many Fat skis, but they're too much fun to get rid of. I love my Jeronimos (basically same ski as th kartels). But in powder over 6 inches they really aren't anywhere near as fun as my 120-130 underfoot skis

Thanks for the response man. I'm kinda just torn cause I want to keep the skis for those deeper days, but I hate seeing skis just lay around, especially when I'm about to go to college and need to save cash. Idk, I'm kinda set on the whole one ski quiver (kartel 106) but I'm still considering keeping the YLES and getting 98. This is probably the hardest decision I've ever had to make haha.

Haha I want a Subaru.

I'm just saying. I get where you're coming from but I would rather have 2 skis that are both good at different things than one ski that is ok at everything. At the same time, I can see the Kartel 106 working really well for you. Do what you want, but don't think this is a hard decision because honestly you can't really lose.

This is all very true. But I just don't see a need for having a ski lay around next winter. And you're right, I'll be happy either way, but it's still somewhat of a hard decision in a way haha. Thanks for the help. K+ to you sir

You do if you live on the west coast (which I do) we don't get a whole lot of fresh snow but we can get away with riding bigger skis. I was on 118 waist skis this whole season, they just don't make the full all mountain loop.

I'm in a very similar situation... my old bacons (115 waist) were getting a little trashed so I pulled the trigger on the Opus's when I found them for $375. Now my park/all mountain ski are the bacons, and they do have their drawbacks... If it were me, I would look at getting the 98's and keep your YLE's for those days you need a bigger ski.

I know I will be going after some j allplays, faction prodigy, or the kartel98s

Does anyone know where I can find an older Jeffery? Like the 108 model from a couple years back? It could be a nice quiver killer if that's what I decide to do.

Thats what I'm leaning towards. And it's probably what I'll do to be honest. As of now I'm gonna try to sell my YLES and skinnier park skis. Thanks for all you who have helped. Maybe keep the responses coming for some more pros/cons. I'll give you all who replied k+ later.
