Sorry to start a computer thread, but I'm not sure what computer to buy. i want to build one because i know they work good. But i feel like they are too expensive and my $7.75 hour job won't make the cut. or a macbook how they are crazy expensive. Someone wanna help me out?
Either way, unless you are going to develop for iOS or do crazy DJ/video editing stuff, you don't need a Mac. I recently got a Macbook because I needed to do some iOS development and macs also work better when developing with Ruby and Python etc.
If you need a computer to check emails/facebook and not much else, then save your money and get a Chromebook. That is what they are designed for.
If you want a desktop and you want to build it, do it. You can make it as cheap or as expensive as you want. It's like big kid legos. Just plug some stuff in here and there and you have a working computer. If you do go the build route, build with AMD. Cheaper and faster, but it eats up more power which isn't exactly a big deal. Go to pcpartpicker.com to build yourself one and check out some guides.
Just please do not be one of those people that get a Mac for a facebook machine or to type school papers. Biggest waste of money ever.
Like said, Asus makes some good products. I would also recommend Lenovo. My flex 2 is one of the best performing and best built laptops I have ever had, plus it has a backlit keyboard. Battery life sucks though.
