JustGoWithItYes actually I have! Let me tell you two stories. The first one is from a man and friend of mine that use to manage the apartments I lived in. His name is Theo and he is from Detroit. He lived in Detroit and went to school in a very bad neighborhood. When he got around the age of 14, gangs started to approach him asking him to join. With the support of his mother he refused and was subsequently shot while on his front porch. Do you know what he and his mother did? Packed up, bought a plane ticket, and left. They moved to Denver and the mother got a job and got him through school and then college. 10 years later he is one of the kindest, hardest working, and most friendly people I know.
Unfortunately, this is few and far between. I'm sure many african americans would love to leave their shitty neighborhoods but can't for a vareity of reasons, money being the main one. It's not easy for someone to relocate and start their life over. This story is an exception and a shining example that you can mkae it out of the ghetto and make somethig for yourself. Unfortunately this is just not a feasible reality for the majority of minorities living well under the poverty line.

If one day blacks are the new majority and whites are living in the ghettos because of their own actions then so be it. I support those who put effort towards their aspirations. Not sit on their ass and expect others to give it to them.

I never in any of my responses referred to the African American race as a whole. However yes I am saying many (Not all) are in poverty because of their own decisions(And I know there are other factors such as age, health, family, ect...). However there are many 20-30 year old black men and women that could be doing something with their life but instead sit on their ass and collect welfare.

In my opinion it is a situation that is out of their control. This is said with great privilege. While what you said about welfare may be true, I would argue that white people put them in the situation where sitting around collecting welfare might be or seem to be the only option. In my opinion it is our responsibility to fix this as the oppressors.

Very true. There is definitely more black people on welfare per capita than white, no denying that. But then you look at the average yearly income by race. Whites make, on average, nearly 60k a year per household, while blacks make around 30k per household. Thats nearly double. And blacks on average have a larger family size than whites. Not really trying to make any excuses, just pointing out some facts. Also important to note that there are 8 states in the country where a welfare recipiant recieves more money than an average teachers salary. Why would anyone want to work if they can make over 30k a year on welfare? I think the states to to reevalute how much they are doling out for welfare, if they made it more of a subsidy than an actually form of income I could see its abuse definitely go down. I think our whole system needs a reevaluation.

People say the same thing about the aboriginal population here in Canada. The fact of the matter is the vast majority of these people have a myriad of barriers that prevent them from getting jobs and improving their situations. None of these barriers operate in isolation:
- Mental health (probably far bigger than people give credit. For example, FASD is a massive issue, but often goes undiagnosed. People with it often present normal when in reality they have huge issues in their cognitive functioning),
- Trauma (largely from various forms of abuse and neglect throughout their life),
- Substance abuse issues (often connected to that trauma),
- criminal activity/records (makes it harder to find employment)
- Poor education,
- Access to healthy food,
- Generational unemployment/poverty (parents with the same issues. Parents don't set a positive example, how do their kids know any better?)
For sure there are some out there who take advantage of the system, but I would say far more don't and legitimately need support. At least that's been my experience in Canada. I can't speak for the situation in the US, but I would wager there are definitely similarities.

Keep in mind that closing the wage gap (women earn 78 cents to every dollar a man makes) in between men and women would take 40% of the people on welfare off of welfare.

It's not like this guy is capable of killing me or injuring me. Too much emphasis has been placed on the incident between brown and wilson and not nearly enough on the excessive police force used not only in the town but nation wide. The shooting is over. What continues is arbitrary abuses of power and issues with proper media coverage/information (which is never properly addressed or at least discussed in instances like this one).

Okay, about the non-lethal techniques. All officers are trained to take down a non lethal target with their given equipment or even hand to hand. If a firearm is drawn you shoot to kill, which I feel is a flaw in the system

I highly doubt anyone in their right mind would be thinking "I'll take him down hand-to-hand" No in that situation you are most likely thinking "I'm being charged by a man twice my size who has just tried to kill me. Maybe I should think about my own safety first".

I completely agree. In officer training officer safety always come first. I'm simply commenting on the fact that throughout the U.SS. there have been confrontations that could have been ended with non lethal shooting, but officers are taught to shoot lethally. I have trained to be an officer and they train you to shoot for center of mass (killzone) and not to maim. And after the target is down to shoot them twice more. If they we're an active shooter the training is that you shoot the downed target in the head or heart to ensure that they are out of commission after they are down. Whereas this situation could have been ended by two shots to the legs not center of mass.

Same with military training that warning shots are hardly ever authorized. It has a bit to do with bystanders because if you're aiming for his leg, good luck. That's why practicing to hit the kill zone builds muscle memory and you can shoot without much thinking because it happens so fast, no time to think. 2 to the chest, 1 to the head. Bang bang. Over and over. I was toying with the idea in my head about what if they tested using cops without guns..

Exactly what I'm talking about. But it is possible. I was playing as a shooter in a scenario and they were able to get a perfect cluster on my hand, chest and head with handguns from 20yrds. Obviously this is a different situation but if more training was put towards non lethal submission. And yes after I was "taken down" they come up and put two rounds in your forehead.

also, almost every bullet wound Mike received clearly indicates that he was shot while kneeling and falling because the shots were fired from Darrens standing height, which happens to be a hell of a lot taller than Mike was when Darren finally got him in the head.

yknow it's funny, i could (or if i was a mod and had the time) pull up threads from just a few months back in which quite a few members vehemently denied that there was racism in the Ferguson police force, or in America in general. fortunately, there's government agencies that went to some lengths to prove that to you instead. so yknow, i'll keep posting, and then i'll just wait a few months for the FBI to prove everything i say. whether or not you guys would actually read their reports is the problem.
