Noob needs a camera (which one tho?)

Hey everyone, so I am a complete beginner when it comes to photography. Currently I have a GoPro 3+ Black edition that I use for filming my park/ridge laps, but I am looking into getting a DSLR camera so that I can have more control over settings and such for video/pictures I take (on and off the mountain). I have tried to look around for what qualifies as a good "beginner camera" but keep hearing vague contradicting opinions. I would love to hear your opinions on what would be a camera that I won't hate after I learn the basics. Basically something that i can grow into. Any suggestions on brands/models? Thanks I appreciate it!

Honestly don't get why everyone hates on the t4i. Yes, its pretty much the same, but the touchscreen just makes things so much easier when you dont have manual aperture lenses. When you look at the price difference its not that much.

It's not as fully featured with magic lantern as a t3i. Touchscreen seems useless when it's cold out too. Save the cash and get a t3i. Put the extra cash into glass.

Umm well I also gotta get a new laptop and I'm looking at getting a mac. I've heard the MacBook Pros are better for editing videos/pics then the Airs so I'm thinking about getting a pro. So basically whatever I don't spend on a camera I could put into getting a better computer or vise versa. Idn I was hoping for something around like 3-4 hundred range?, 500 tops. I know that's pretty limited budget when I look at them online, but I guess I can keep saving if need be. Again I'm just s beginner so I don't need a $1000 camera.

No, the touchscreen isn't worth the extra money at all. I have a t4i and I love it, but I can't remember the last time I've used it. It's so much easier to hit the a/v button and then twist the wheel at the top. I can't really ever think of a time when I would rather look down from the viewfinder or recompose just to use the screen. Definitely get a cheaper, used body from someone on ns and then get more lenses, stabilizers, or other gear. It's worth a lot more.

NS loves the t2/3s. I honestly would go with the GH2, it's a much better camera for video.

the G series has a major flaw and that would be lenses... It can get pricey...

The 60D is the best learning platform because rather than having each button do 3 different things including your mom, you have more spaced out buttons and it is simpler.

ML Works on the 60D beautifully and it is all arround a nice camera. I bought a used one from B&H that was +8/10 and it had 6k pictures taken and had one scratch on the bottom.

And considering it is B&H, you can return it if you want and they are super chill...

Definitely buy from B&H because they are killer, and get the 60D so if you realize you dig it, you can really get into it...

Very nice camera to learn on, with excellent output, and 2 scroll/spin wheels rather than 1 on the Most (if not all) rebels.....

you're pretty wrong tbh. Just pick up any glass and buy an adapter, lenses end up being cheaper. Native m4/3 glass is actually pretty cheap as well compared to the full frame equivalents. I'd go as far as to say the GH2 is world's ahead of the 60d when it comes to video lol, just look anywhere online. For photos maybe the slightly bigger sensor of the 60d may come in handy, but still, if you want to do a lot of filming, the GH2's the way to go imo. Grab a GH2, some old prime lenses for cheap, and a cheap adapter and you have an awesome setup for very little money.
