Honestly I think TG has been kinda ruined by the really high budgets they've had in recent years. Very few of the episodes are actually about cars, mostly specials which are more about getting cheap laughs, and it's rare that those cars they are about get anything other than unanimous praise from the team. That was why the episode a couple of weeks ago was so good - coupled with a fairly entertaining main feature ("that's not a light, that's a collapsible sun!" being one of my favourite quotes) Clarkson absolutely trashed the car he was reviewing. It was a lot more fun to watch than him smiling and powersliding for 10 minutes.

If BBC dropped Jeremy they would lose practically their whole audience as well as a shit ton of money. They would have to be extremely stupid.

That being said, if they do drop him, I hope he gets with a network that will allow him to have the same show, but with less fucks given. I think that Jeremy would do fine on another network, and if he got James and Richard with him they would probably do better than now only because they would come up with even cooler and edgier stuff than they produce now

Clarkson is a strong as fuck personality who did whatever everyone else wanted him to do for years (just look at the way he talks about things during his afro days - sure he's comical, but he's not quite as edgy in any way), and at this point in his career, he's reached "I don't give a FUCK" stage.

Now, I don't always agree with him, and sometimes he has said some shit that's pretty fucked up (namely the racisty kinda stuff), but I don't honestly believe that Clarkson is as radical as everyone thinks he is. He just likes to get on peoples' goat and is an absolute EPIC troll - and that's obvious if you've ever seen his shows.

He has powerful enemies that cling to every word he says for a chance to jump into a controversy. Go back 10 years ago... hell. FOUR years ago.. and it wasn't the case. Remember when Topgear was this niche TV show out of the UK and we north americans could find all the shows a week later on youtube? When the studio had 100 people in it instead of 2000? When his biggest enemies were the Morris Marina owners club and idiot Caravanners? He's got one of the most watched shows on the planet now BECAUSE we blew those uploads up on youtube. Now he's A-list as can be, and his newfound jumpy opponents won't let him get away with anything anymore, and he doesn't care.

...that's why I love Jezza. He just doesn't give an airborne flailing skyshit what anyone thinks about him. He's all about fucking with anyone's sensitivities. Anyone who opposes him can lick the fairest part of his asscrack as far as he's concerned. He's a comic. It's what he does. More people need to realize that. His fans have. Yes, he wants to do his show. It's his favourite thing, but at the same time, the show wouldn't be the same if he wasn't able to be who he is - it would just be Pre-Hammond Top gear from 1991 when he wasn't even the chief host - still good, but far too neutered to reach the global audience Top Gear has commanded.

That's my bad. I was looking at British tv ratings, not specifically at BBC. I thought BBC was bigger than it is (which is still pretty huge) and Top Gear is a pretty solid chunk of that.

the bbc isnt about to kill one of their biggest moneymakers, it is an internationally broadcast series, and he is at the forefront of it.

the change.org petition to reinstate clarkson got 550 000+ signatures as of 1:38pm pst today, not too much more than 24 hours after it started i believe

Maybe he was paid by either McLaren, Porsche, or Ferrari to throw the punch and end the season before the P1, 918, and La Ferrari could race. Really bummed that it's over, hopefully the BBC changes the plan and airs the last of the season. Someone should just sue Clarkson and continue with business as usual.

It would be financial suicide for the BBC to do anything else. This season the BBC has arranged contracts with broadcasters for the series to be streamed in other countries (except US) simultaneously to it's UK broadcast, and all those broadcasters (including US) will be able to sue the BBC if they fail to deliver on it. The repercussions would be massive.

I don't really know what I was trying to say there. I guess I was trying to say that it started out pretty unknown except for by the car community and then at some point (probably around the time they were finding it difficult to take down the Toyota Hilux) people everywhere started paying attention - and of course not just in America. It blew up from there, and now it's the biggest show on TV, and it's about fucking cars and old geezers fucking around with dry slapstick.

well tbh the viral nature DID make it wayyyy bigger than it ever would have been all on its own. But it wasn't just America, it was the entire world. No other show/sport/entertainment has caught on as universally and as fast as Top Gear.

Which is why the BBC would be retarded to suspend him more than one show. He and the show he created can make them billions. And while the BBC may be massive, they are far from being so massive that they can throw away the money and popularity that only Clarckson can bring.

That being said he's a racist, sexist idiot. And I hope he stays that way.
