Houseboats

Anybody know anything about the rules with houseboats? Thinking it would be cool to live in a super modest houseboat somewhere cool. The more remote the better. Maybe even just rent something for a month or so.

Would anyone else want to join?

My old neighbor has one. Theyre pretty dope. Can just pull up on an island on the river for a weekend and get your party on

Like can I just build a ghetto houseboat and just park it somewhere? I'm guess plenty of places you can't. Just wondered what the deal is with that. I just want a shack on the water to call home for a while. Maybe I'll just move it from place to place when I get kicked out.

Don't do hurricane zones on the east coast. everyone who had one of those lost it during sandy I believe.

Now I don't know the rules in AK, but I have a few buddies that have them and run them up and down the Mississippi River. If you want to dock for the night, you have to pay slip fees, but there's nothing preventing you from just posting up in an inlet somewhere, or on an island in the middle of the river, anchoring, and chillin for the night/weekend. Just can't anchor in the channel for obvious reasons.

We actually do that quite a bit - post up on an island somewhere and camp on the "beach".

I believe so as long as you're not on private property. The difficult part would be finding somewhere to park it if you wanted to go into town or something. I know around here on the mississippi there wouldnt really be anywhere but private marina dockslips. But im sure more rural areas it wouldnt be so difficult

Sounds doable, and as far as the ice, I'm not planning on doing it in the winter. I'd rather be in the mountains for the winter.

Rule number two "Dont rock the boat as it is very hard to unrock the boat"


We stayed in a big one last summer for 2 1\2 weeks up on Rainy Lake. Best vacation ever.

If you follow through get a dingy , they are like 200-300 bucks with a motor on craigslist and you can get from deep to shallow and they are just fun to scoot around on

I thought the same thing at first. Thinking he means that if my home is tied up somewhere I can use the dingy to get around.

THE NS BOAT!!!

It wasn't necessarily a house boat but I got to go on a sail boat in B.V.I I think it was 48 ft? I shared it with two other families that I got to tag along with, living on the sea is a lot of fun just being out in the open blue is something else.
Side note: I caught a barracuda while I was there it was a pretty cool experience.

Hopefully one year I will buy a conversion van or RV and travel around all winter skiing and then during the summer get a house boat and traverse the open waters and land until winter comes again.
