Tips for shooting when it's really cold?

How cold is really cold? What gear are you using?

Just position your camera on your crotch so that your balls can keep your hands warm while still maintaining full functionality.

But honestly I haven't experienced too much crazy coldness being on the west coast so I have no idea.

anywhere from 10 above to 30 below. I'm upgrading to a sony a7s and I usually shoot on a glidecam.

I once had a pair of fly fishing mitts that the fingers flopped back on to reveal cut off gloves. Maybe something like that?
Or just liners and mitts

if you're shooting on a glidecam most of the time it's not a big deal no? it's not like you're pulling focus while using it so you can just use regular gloves or pipe gloves right?

He's asking how to keep his hands warm while using buttons haha, it doesn't have anything to do with the camera he's using so I'm not sure why that matters? (unless the camera doesn't have knobs that let you navigate the menus thus having no option other than to use the touch screen.

those really thin walmart gloves are awesome. especially if you keep a large pair of mitts on hand, then you can just keep them on under the big mitts. you can also keep a set of hand warmers in your mitts so your hands are much warmer in the mitts.keep them in the mitts until just before the shot. (those mitts that have strings to attach them to your arm are great, you can just take them off and let them hang)

as far as stuff not working well in the cold, tripods you kind of have to work them to warm them up, your not going to get a nice shot if the fluid in the head is frozen, you need to move it around before the shot so you can make sure the shot is smooth

turn the camera off between shots to conserve battery

SPARE BATTERIES! lots of spare batteries - I carry 4 at minimum.
