Best touring skis

Can people list some skis that don't suck to lug uphill but can handle crud and aren't too bad if you ski down in cruddy hardpack?


I bought some Blizzard Scouts but I am worried that I didn't get a light enough ski.

Based on your suggestion of the Scouts, I'm guessing you're happy with that kind of girth underfoot, hence the suggestions.

The Navis Freebird are what I really wanted but woulda cost another 300.

How much lighter are they than the Scouts?

Navis Freebird - 1880gr at 179cm
Scout - 2000 at 177cm

Thank you for posting up the numbers I tried to find them and couldn't Im glad I am not going to be carrying excess weight fat skis can get heavy as hell quick.


My ski will be 10% heavier overall but I get another 5cm of length and another 5mm underfoot. Materials should weigh the same considering that so it works for me. Think Blizzard stopped making the ski at that length this past year and the '14 top sheets are way doper.

But yeah so I'm all set and I'll throw Beasts on these that sounds like what I want for hucking cliffs into powder but what is the best light weight touring ski that will still hold a big 250 lb guy but has a waist closer to 80mm around 180cm long? Might get some lighter bindings on steep and cheap over the summer and have a second set up when I can afford it.

I'd be careful with the beasts, they're not actually that great a product. I have a friend who's about your size and skis on beasts and he really doesn't like them. Not only are they heavy, but they're also pretty fidly to use and snow gets clogged in key places making change overs quite slow and painful.

Everyone thinks they're going to be going huge in the BC and need DIN 16gazillion, or need a tech rig because they're lapping up the vert. But the reality is most skiers especially if they're new to the BC will be just fine on F12s.
