Importance of brake width

Going to get a new pair of bindings at the end of the season, and have been looking at a lot of 140 type bindings. A lot of them only have 115mm left in stock as the smallest brake width, and I have the volkl wall with waist width 87mm. It says stay within 15mm larger than the waist of the ski, what exactly can happen if the brakes are too wide, and does this mean I should get smaller than 115?

technically you should have smaller brakes than 115s, but you can bend them in or take them in to your shop and trade for a smaller size. they can do that for free cause the brakes bigger. if they're too wide they snag on each other and get caught on the snow sometimes, especially when skiing switch

Actually just found the FKS 140 in 95 mm for $240 so will probably get those

if your carving hard i can see them catching in the snow or any trick that involves crossing your skis they could get snagged up

Get those. Over 15 is too much overhang, makes things get caught etc.
