Long haul truckers- any on here?

Anyone on here drive a truck in the summer to support their ski habit?


This is an unappealing job to most people but I like the idea of being an independent owner operator and going out on the road for 5-6 weeks at a time to work maybe 2-3 times a summer. Not really a 420 friendly job though which is a downside for me.

Yeah. I know I could only handle a certain amount of it. Couldn't do it to earn my entire income or full time but as a second job it appeals to me.

But I also know I'd rather work for a week and chill for 3 than work every day.


There are certain 20 hour a week normal second job type jobs I'd love to have May-November mind you. But not winter.

fuck that DOT bullshit. I had to get a class A for a job that was oilfield related. Motherfuckers rode my ass so hard when I got speeding tickets IN MY OWN FUCKING CAR/on my motorcycle, not driving a truck. Also, since I had a class A CDL when I got pulled over leaving A-basin to go have lunch in Dillon, this motherfucking state patrol tried to give me a DUI/DWAI (.04 or over) presumably because of the CDL? I had two beers that whole day, it was ridiculous. I was on a date too. Had to leave her on the side of the road while I was put under arrest and brought into the station to have the official tests done.

Idk man, I'm about it in a way, but in a biggger way: fuck that. As you mentioned, not 420 friendly. Drug tests up the ass. Like I said, I've heard .04 is a DUI at all times even driving your own car if you have a CDL, and found out the hard way that it's apparently true).

They expect you to be some super safe driver at all times which is bullshit. IDK, too much to ask from me apparently

If you are driving on the east you can expect to spend half your income on tolls and the other half on fuel. If it is something that you don't "really" want to do then I reccomend looking elsewhere. There is a reason OTR companies give big sign-on bonuses.

Not sure if that would be enough time on the road to pay for your truck/insurance/maintenance to be an owner.

I knew a couple guys that drove for short haul routes, they worked for restaurant suppliers. They liked it and road a ton in the summer and winter.
