Making Custom Skis

So recently ON3P was doing demos at my home mountain (Blue Mountain) and I was talking to some of the guys from the company and they were telling me how awesome there job was. It really sparked my interest in making skis so I wanted to see if anyone has any past experience in doing so? Of course I dont have any aspirations of becoming a company of any sorts but I feel it would be awesome to ride my own hand made skis. I understand completely this would be a hard task but I figured it wouldnt hurt to reach out and ask the NS community for help. Thanks!!
ps, The ON3P guys were awesome. Definitely buying Filthy Riches for next season; that is if I dont have my own hand made pair yet lol.

And who says the younger NS demographic can't make stuff? It's certainly doable, but you'll be spending money for sure.

So I think the best place to start is by giving the ski builder's how to a quick read through. It isn't the most detailed nor does it contain really good building methods but it should give you a good overall idea on ski building as a whole.

From there, the ski builder's forum is a solid resource. It definitely takes a lot to sort through them but there's loads of answers to pretty much any question you could ask.

The ski building thread that was already linked up is a good resource to. It details quite a bit of what I've done over the past few years, however it does lack some stuff to. If there's something you're really stuck on though or you need some clarity, it would be a solid place to drop questions.

As a whole it's definitely a fairly Mammoth task, but with some perseverance you'll definitely make it happen. It's super worth it in the end to, there's nothing else I'd rather be doing.

I should reiterate that this is a MASSIVE task.

When planning you should estimate how much everything is going to cost and how long it's gonna take. Then add another zero to the end of all those numbers, and you're probably in the right ballpark.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but I think a true sense of scale is really important with goals like these. You absolutely 100% can completely do it, but it will (initially) cost loads more than a pair of skis and take up a massive amount of time.

Both of these will add up to immense satisfaction when you finally get a good pair of skis, and these probably won't be until at least the third pair you make.

Also, if you succeed you've pretty much got the best engineering school interview strategy their is...
