RibmtnI heard that two kids are in a coma after taking the ski high jump. The jump is closed off and other said that an engineering firm was out measuring and taking pictures of the jump. Anyone know what happened?
I just know that one kid died after being in a coma....I haven't heard about the other. The jump is reopened and they were indeed taking measurements. Not sure what happened, but here's my take on both deaths.
I ski Granite nearly every day and was there the night he died (talking about the more recent one). This was so tragic, still I have to say that it was his fault. I hate to be critical, but I know if I fuck up in the park and blow a knee or break my neck, it's my fault. He was from the Chicago area meaning he probably shouldn't have been in the park in the first place. Also, he supposedly bombed the entire run, when everyone knows the drop is 2/3 of the way down the run. Even if he didn't know this, you should be able to figure it out by watching others. And it's not like the jump is dangerously built (though I would argue it could be a better jump). It doesn't send you into any trees and the speed is consistent.
I think this is a case of trying to put the blame of this tragedy on the resort rather than accepting it was his error. Know your limits and assume responsibility. Still, my thoughts are with the family and friends of the kid.
