Freestyle Waterskiing?

Over the past few years Wakeboarding has started to sneak its way into the park scene. However much like the freestyle movement in the early 90's for snowboarders, skiers are lacking behind. Do you think there is a future in such a sport for water skiers?

I personally think it would be fun as hell!

Its seems like it just does not work as well and isn't as fun as wake boarding.

Doesn't look very hard but I could be very wrong, me and my friend were looking at it but over the summer but we dont have any park near us and doing tricks behind a boat seems near impossible

Its actually called wake skis. They basically look like powder skis rockered out. Check youtube some vids on them.

Yeah they're kinda fun I've been on them before. I like surfing behind boats the most tho. Tubing is a close second depending on tube, boat, driver, etc

I tried a 180 on regular water skis, almost rode it out and caught a tail, have my cossacks dialed though, also have footy of an attempted front flip, I made the rotation but I double ejected right at the beginning, fun to goof around with but traditional boots just dont offer enough control.

As previously stated, wake skiing. Its not new. And wakeboarding has started to sneak its way into the park scene? freestyle wakeboarding has been around and prominent for a long time

Freestyle water-skiing has been around for a while. My English teacher used to compete in national competitions and stuff every summer. From what she has told us they have some different events. There's some jump lines. I don't think they had rails (at least not then)

I fell off a tube going about that fast and both of my eardrums exploded. Most painful thing I have ever felt. Even worse than my broken ribs.

The only reason it isn't popular is because hardly anyone sees it.When you think of how many cable parks their is it explains a lot they are only for wake parks pretty much, they are hard to land flips with out a direct drive cable system which the operator can adjust speeds at the drop of a hat. Sesitec 2.0's are the best systems to learn on rather than a full system, air tricks - raleys are piss easy on full systems with the speeds and how the cable system arcs.

The bindings that they run are shit, it is better just to run a soft park boot on and something with 14 din as you would want to be running them at 12 all the time. Learnt that from experience from blown $2k worth of slalom bindings and stereos own shitty full frame boots. Plus you can use them for kite skiing out on the water as you can run up to your sticks with the kite and just kick and kick out when you come back in shore to land your kite after your session

They are a real blast they feel like skiing in powder, would highly recommend them if you have the cash to put an alpine set up on them. Plus you can go twice as high as any Wakeboarder

Overall it improves your skiing greatly and is always a blast, but you will always be mobbed by Wakeboarders where ever you go.

Yeap drill them and have T bolt inserts running through the bottom of the skis or they will blow out of the foam. I have mine set up on ffg 14's at the moment, but I will be working with a local company to produce some Wakeskis with paulownia cores to get some flex and butter the shit out of features and actually soak up some of the shock from the impacts of landing flat on them. The skis that Stereo make are very durable but they have no life in them.

i'm having a hell of a time envisioning your alpine setup on wake skis. wouldn't a top plate with the bindings mounted on it, and then anchored in to the factory binding screws work better? it'd certainly be easier.


although, i must admit, i don't know why in the fuck you'd want to wear a heavy ass alpine setup.....

If I had access to that kind of material to make a beefy top plate then I would've gone that way, It is another way of doing it.

Eventually, I do believe freestyle water skiing will get there, but for right now wakeboarding dominates the action sports industry on the water.

it shouldn't be too hard to find someone capable of making that for you. especially if you figure out all of the dimensions yourself (easy to do). just google fabrication shops in your area. they should be able to whip something up for a pretty cheap price.

i can't imagine that this wouldn't be infinitely more durable than what you're currently doing.

I will be drilling quiver killers into the pair I make next time, they work well which I'm happy with there is another idea in mind and that is to make a carbon exo frame that wraps around a liner and is just ratcheted on via a snowboard binding that would be the dream set up.

This design here could be adjusted accordingly - inb4 kill yourself Silvretta

that's a super legit price for sure. too bad you're not in aus. i've got a few handfuls of friends from the Aus world ski team...was thinking one of them might be able to help you get your setup dialed in.
