So Volk has killed the Bridge and Gotama, two of my favorite skis from this past season (personally have the out going Gotama).
The Gotama replacement will be the 100Eight. This is a non twin-tip pow/ ali-mtn crusher. These were fast on the groomers, making long GS-turns. They really did not want to carve at low speeds. However, they are super light and I crushed through a small mogul run that was near the demo area with huge smile on my face. They utilize the same core profile as the v-werks katana, but without carbon or titanium. What separated this from the new Mantra (100mm waist, full rocker) is that they brought camber back underfoot and it's no-metal construction. Overall a good ski, going after the coshise/ salomon Q-105 market. Graphics were sweet on these, clean and modern.
The bridge is actually being replaced by 2 models this year: the little brother to the 100Eight, the 90Eight (a non-twin, no metal all-mtn ski) and the Revolt. The revolt is effectively Ahmet Dadali's pro model jib stick. I skied the revolt yesterday for some time. It is a 95mm jib stick with a lot of camber. The pair they gave me was volkl center mounted with jesters. I found them to be a little on the heavy side compared to my volkl steps. The tails were stiff, which made them a little less forgiving on awkward landings, but there was enough pop to get the (limited) tricks I know around. The great thing about this ski is it's $399 price point. That's a full sidewall construction, wood core, 95mm jib ski for 400 bucks! Only part I didn't like other than the stiff tail was the graphic. While late model volkls have had super-clean, geometrical graphics with sweet colors (exception: 14/15 kink), this graphic was done by Dadali himself, and just doesn't appeal to me. I'm sure many will disagree. Such is life.
Sadly, I was too busy skiing to get pictures, but here are some stock pics:
