For those of you out there who haven't heard of this sick new style of competition, I'd love to share it with you in hopes that other mountains catch on with the trend too. Not sure if this is their original idea or not but anyways...
This season the rad mofos of the Whiteface Park Crew had their first Park Golf competition Early January for skiers and boarders. The way the competition worked was a member of the park crew selected 9 current features in the park and a specific trick to do on each feature. You have 3 tries to get the trick or else you get a bogie. So first try you get a 1, 2nd try a 2, 3rd try a 3, and if it was a no go you get the boge. Whoever had the lowest score by the end of the 9 features was the winner.
For example one of the features was a waterfall rail(down drop down) and you had to do a switch up down the drop. Some was doing a nose block with a tail grab on the quarter pipe, and a 5 with a grab on the biggest jump.
In the event of a tie at the end of the park there was a tie breaker feature where there was sudden death trick called out for 1st 2nd and 3rd or any other ties.
Overall, definitely one of the best and most fun competitions I had ever been a part of. It wasn't about who could throw down the craziest shit, it was about who the most well rounded park skier or boarder was and who could get the called out tricks under pressure on the spot.
I'm happy that it was such a hit they've decided having one the first sunday of every month since. In fact, the next one is this Sunday March 1st! If you're not too far of a haul and wanna shred some unique features in a unique park layout out and take place in a unique competition come get weird at Whiteface this weekend!
Also if any other parks out there are doing this I'd be interested to know!
