The ATF as well as some politicians in Congress are attempting to ban m855 ammunition, claiming that it puts "law enforcement in danger." Not only is this bullshit (Most rifle ammunition can penetrate body armor, not just m855, as they claim), but it is a blatant infringement of basic 2nd ammendment rights. "Green tip" ammunition is used for a variety of purposes and even the suggestion that it should be banned is ridiculous.

*deep breath* end rant. If you even remotely care PLEASE fill out this form letter and send it to your representatives and the ATF.

m855 isn't specialized. It's an incredibly common form of ammunition. Banning it would make ammunition prices skyrocket -> It would be much harder for me to purchase AR ammunition -> infringing the 2nd amendment.

Also, why even ban this ammunition? I don't know about you, but I don't like the idea of banning the production/sale of something, no, ANYTHING, for no reason.

I'm a really left wing guy but I think banning guns is fucking stupid. Why let some lunatics take away from the freedom of others to do as they please and enjoy their hobby. I would fill that out but I'm Canadian, just wanted to say how I feels.

Gun enthusiasts don't know the 2nd amendment. If it's such an infringement have the Supreme Court overturn it. O wait you can't because its within the government's power to ban a kind of ammunition. Now if it's fair or unfair to gun owners that's a different argument.

m855 makes up a huge portion of 556/223 ammo sales. If it was banned, prices for 556/223 would go up and there would be another shortage as people scramble to get it.

An assault rifle is a select fire weapon. That means is can be fired either semi or full automatic. 99% of people cannot buy an assault rife.

that depends weed which I actually don't like but I don't care that other people do it. I don't think it's nearly as bad as people consuming alcohol as for cocaine crystal meth and heroin no I don't think that should be legalized.

now please tell me how many guns in America are used to kill other people. What is it like 35 people a day die From gun violence in America.

lastly the government already controls you, and rips your rights away. You have no freedom to privacy. The government can basically detain you if they suspect you're a terrorist without any proof, forever. and let's not even get into the corruption on the two parties that control the entire country. There's like three main families in the entire nation That Run for president. your rights to own a gun are so trivial to the government taking over, and controlling you it doesn't matter. what's your pathetic little assault weapons, or rifle compared to the military.

^ Vast majority of gun violence is committed with handguns. No handguns that I'm aware of (besides AR pistols which defeats the whole purpose of a concealable handgun) fire 5.56mm ammunition.

Its a silly round anyway...

I shoot 55gr M193 for plinking, and 77gr SMK for social work. Both are better at making bodies go cold than the inaccurate and ineffective 62gr M855. All have no problem shredding through soft armor. M855 and Mk262 mod1 both go through single steel plates pretty well (old school body armor), but neither are that effective against current level III and IV plates.

yawn. I still did it though. That way idiots will continue to buy the M855 not the M193 and XM193.

Two points:

1) as mentioned, an Assault Rifle is a magazine fed select fire weapon. Very few people own one. The M16A4 is the current US issued Assault rifle. The M4A1 is an assault carbine, but often considered an assault rifle. Both are capable of select fire (hold the trigger down and more than one round is cycled. An AR15 is neither. However, the anti-gun movement has made up the phrase 'assault weapon' to describe anything that looks kinda like an assault rifle, regardless of functionality.

2) because I am a free American, and I want to. That is all the reason I need.

Kinda unrelated but I hate when people want to ban guns because they "kill people". They don't. The person that pulls the trigger is the one who kills. A gun doesn't do anything until someone touches it because that is the intention. The gun itself doesn't do anything.

there's a huge difference between criminals and kids who shoot up schools. you are a moron if you think stricter gun regulations won't effect the murder rates with guns. what happened to Australia after they had stricter gun regulations? all their mass shooting stopped that was 14 years ago.

We actively target people who posses, use, distribute and produce crack cocaine. Yet it still only takes about 30 minutes of concerted effort to obtain it.

Violent crime goes up when guns are removed from the population.
The evidence that removing guns has an affect on homoicde is almost nonexistent. When comparing before and after for each country it is shown to have little to no affect.
