Spending a whole season in a hut?

Hey! So I was wondering if you guys think it would be possible to spend an entire winter or like 2 months up in a BC hut? Maybe montana or Utah not sure just an idea right now... I was thinking if you took a few trips up in the summer/ fall to stock it up with food and what not it would be possible.

Are there legal issues with this? And for most huts do you have to book them/ pay?

Possible? Sure. There are some huts that you don't Need to pay for/reserve here in Canada but I don't know dude. No one wants to show up at a hit just to find out some dirty hippy has full on moved in for the season. As well - why the fuck would you want to? If you want to be out there that bad, build your own damn hut. I'm sure you'd be breaking squatting laws, so if you piss enough people off my setting up shop the cops could come and kick you out.

If you still want to do this. At least find a hot spring like the rest of the dirty squatting hippies out there. Even then, they still move around from hot spring to hot spring.

You'd have to build your own, otherwise it would be pretty poor form to squat all season in a public one.

x3 on the squatting. personally big dream of mine is a camper van winter. Had a kid so maybe in my hover van in 18 years.

3 possible ideas:
1. one of those huge camping tents that fit like 12 people
2. a van
3. a trailer

I know on public land in Montana, you can only stay for 16 days at a time, and 32 days per year. You'd either need to move a tent or yurt of some sort periodically, or find some private land to stay on. I think a better option might be to find a little place to stay in a town like Cooke City, and just bum out there for a winter. Staying out for a couple months in the summer is super fun, but winters are very dark and constrictive after a while--at least for me.

Just sleep in a bivouac and use a thermal proof ghillie and hunt gapers, you will be able to supply yourself with vital supply's then.

You'd need a serious amount of terrain and snowfall to keep yourself entertained and happy, skiing the same hut all winter long.

Better to visit a few and keep things fresh.

to be honest, if it's quiet stay in it as long as you want, maybe do some upkeep etc. but when it gets busy, move out for a bit to give others some time in it.
