Well obviously each paid skier gets different amounts from different sponsors. Some also probably also have other duties besides just the skiing. Responsibilities such as team manager or design or many other things.Many also have stake in some companies. so do they get paid by the brand or do they receive income from a company they own?

It's kind of a hard question to answer.

Top comp skiers notwithstanding, the vast majority of top pro skiers earn a middle class salary (if they're lucky) until their knees inevitably go out at the ripe age of 30 (again, if they're lucky). The quality of life until that age, however, is nearly unrivaled.

In the X-games, Winners can earn $50,000 for taking top prize in an event, but the money drops the lower a competitor places (10th place only pays $1,000 -- barely enough to cover the athletes' travel expenses)

You gotta think top dogs like Tanner, Jon, etc who have made long term lasting careers are making high six figures if not 7 figure + salaries. At that point career longevity is about gaining stakes in companies or perhaps going corporate or starting your own company with the leverage and respect you gained as a pro.
