Midwest rope tows...

hey NS, I live on the ice coast and we don't have many rope tows out here. For those of you who do have rope tows, I was wondering how can the mountain or hill tell if you have bought a pass? couldn't you just hike up a little unseen and then lap the park all day without going to the bottom or the top? how does this work? plus k for serious responses.

lift tickets are only like 20-30 bucks so they dont check often

theoretically you could do this to a lot of mid-mountain lifts where they don't check passes. but the issue is being "unseen" when hiking up. you stick out like a sore thumb hiking up a hill with skis in hand

Mountains check every once and a while so that does not really work cause if you get caught, its bad.

my mountain only has one and its at the top, so you need a pass to get on the lift then the tow

You have to take a chair to get up to the rope tow park at my mountain, but there is also a bunny hill at the bottom but you don't "need" a pass to use it.

They usually don't check for passes anywhere besides Afton Alps and the bigger resorts like Lutsen and Spirit Mountain

you can walk into hyland hills, get on the rope, and ski all day without anyone checking your pass usually. I haven't had my pass checked this year after about 30 days and had it checked once last year when some friends and I were messing around on the bunny hill. so yeah, its a little risky, but they either just make you buy a ticket or kick you out.

It all depends on your mountain. I mean a mountain could have someone checking passes at the bottom or top of the rope tow or whatever.

In a short answer, some hills check and some hills dont. I go to a really small hill that just has a park, and they don't check so i don't buy a ticket. Other hills that are bigger tend to check, they literally have people out in chairs with scanners in the middle of the tow line.

At Hyland you only get checked if you are doing something you shouldn't be doing.
