Anyone on here invest in silver?

Interested to know if anyone else on here invests in silver? It is very cheap right now, at $16.42 an ounce. Right now is a very good time to buy. Silver hit $48 an ounce in 2010, and will likely head in that direction again.




If you invest smartly in silver you can make a lot of money. Although many people look down on silver as an investment, saying that there are better options. But silver has held its value throughout the history of trade, and lately has been a crazy way to multiply your money if you buy at the right times.

I definitely feel ya. If I didn't live at home right now I wouldn't be able to afford any either. But hey, its better than buying gold which is like $1,200 an ounce!

I bought in at 10.27 in 07/08. Wanted to fake a loan or borrow $$$ because I knew I was gonna kill it. Unfortunately had to sell it because financial shit.

If I had had legit $ I would have crushed it. Told so many people to invest they were all like no you're dumb, sucks to suck.

Was going to invest again at 15 but really needed to keep funds in dollars unfortunately.

If I don't go leave the country for the summer and silver is still under 18 I'll probably throw a g into it.

I stopped in at the precious metals store today and the workers said that people are expecting silver to go even lower because the dollar is getting stronger. That's why people aren't buying like crazy yet. But honestly I don't see it going any lower than $15 max. Buuuut, if it does I will not complain because that will turn out to be a payday

If anyone invests MAKE SURE YOU BUY PHYSICAL SILVER. If you can't hold it you don't own it.

OP what are you looking at getting?

If I invest again it'll probably be mostly bullion again, probably sunshine mint and a few coins, rounds, and junk.

I bought a bunch of bullion from NWT mint, beautiful bars but they're kind of shady. You don't get your silver for like 4 months sometimes. They just have our money to invest interest free for that time. That said you're locked into the price so at lest you got that.

I have 10oz that I bought in 2006 for about $9.50/oz. Plan on holding it until it hits around $35 or so.

wow I was literally just talking about this with my family. I have an envelope of cash in my room full of cash from a savings acct at a bank we don't use anymore, and I'm considering turning my money into silver. I'll probably invest like 400 or so of it into 10oz bars

Yeah 15 was my original goal to buy back in when it was 30+.

The dollar is getting "strong" but the dollar is not at all getting strong. I like it though because I'd love the price to drop. The dollar is never getting stronger. The only thing the dollar get's stronger than is other god awful fiat currencies.

Silver hit its peak during the recession. Commodities such as gold and silver generally have an inverse relationship with trends in equity securities. When people see risk in equities they flock to commodities viewing it is a safer and more stable investment. Most economists will tell you we are coming out of a recession. With that in mind it would make more sense to invest in equities.

Most economists said we weren't going into a recession. We also have a very stale economy according to them. Personally I laugh at that shit. The recession would have been a good thing for our economy if we had let it ride and hadn't fucked with things. If you don't think silver is going to go up again you're crazy. Inflation these days is pretty massive.

I just remember in 06-08 hearing people talk about how good our economy was. The panels of experts on fox, cnn, msnbc saying that everything was good some of them actually laughing at the idea that their was a big shit storm coming.

Precious metals are a pretty safe investment. The more our economy get's beaten to death, the better they do. Silver is pretty low right now.

Peter Schiff is a boss. He's probably one of the few economists that are able to take the abstract-ness of the social science and ground it in reality. Didn't let his company buy into the sub-prime mortgage hype and came out way ahead.

Also, annihilated a few of the Occupy Wallstreet protesters that tried to cut him down during an informational interview he willingly gave.

I usually just get bars, I buy as much as I can. (Which usually isn't a ton). Every once in awhile I get a ten ounce, 5 ounces sometimes, and usually I just go in with as much money as I have and get single ounces. I get whatever kind the store here has. Most recently they've had Sunshine minting and Kitco.

What I really want is to save up like $1,800 and buy a 100 oz bar!

Online in bulk. If I order bars again I'm probably going to get a bunch of stuff from sunshine mint.

The more stuff you get in one size from one place, the lower the price. This makes a big difference imo. That much less you have to make up to turn a profit. A few other bars, coins or what not are fine but for me I want to buy the bulk from one place and get the best deal.

Generally you save money by using a money order or bank transfer versus a cc.

Would recommend reading up on any company or website you plan to buy from.

Was going to post a thread but figured I'd search and saw this.

Silver is $14.3 and been dropping again. I just made a couple calls. Possibly going balls deep this week. Would put the bulk in now or mid 13's hopefully, and then if it drops any further keep buying.


Basically looking to get in for a total investment of 15.50 per ounce or less. Preferable under 15. Then when it hits 30 again that's a double up right there.

The worst thing you can do is have money just sitting in USD in the bank. That definitely isn't going to get you anywhere. Save it so buy the time you need it, it's worth considerably less.

Inflation is a bitch.

the key to precious metals is buying before a collapse. As the market is stronger people don't need to see their money in a physical form like a silver bar. When things go south then people want metals. Are you willing to buy when its good and even more importantly sell when its bad?

Investing more than 10% of your portfolio in metals is, IMO, stupid.

It's not really that safe in the long run, especially when you consider how porly they tend to perform compared to the stock market on whole.

The key to them however is that they tend to function opposite the stock market and economy as a whole. Re: Gold Prices 2007-2012

I've dabbled in virtual currency a bit, which is obviously different, but is silver as simple as it sounds? Can I go buy 10oz off of jmbullion, wait for it to double, and then just sell it for a profit? Or is there more.

Diversity in investments is key.

I go: 20% - 30% cash, 30 - 40% fixed interest, 20% low risk, 20% medium to high risk

It is important to have gun powder to average down when things go south! Hence the cash.

I mean the "experts" were telling people the economy was fine and to keep investing in the stock market. Even when the recession was obvious they were saying it wasn't etc.

I don't mind "bad" economic advice. Obviously wouldn't advise it for somebody who will need that money right away, but then again, that's pretty obvious and standard across the board.

I was telling people about it the last time I did and I killed it. So even if I'm horribly wrong right now that's still not the worst odds considering a lot of people out there.

True is the value of the USD is dropping fast, in the long run precious metals will keep going up. You might not get rich, but you'd have to really fuck up hard to lose a lot.

I guess just do whatever you want.

I'm going to grab a bunch of silver, maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm an idiot, but that's what I'm doing.

If you don't want to that's great, but a motherfucking pirates life for me.

I have a bar of silver I don’t remember the weight it was like $700. I want a brick that’s more like $2000. When I first started investing in bitcoin/crypto, I told myself I would have as much precious metals as bitcoin to hedge my bets. That has gone to shit since I’ve started to see Bitcoin as the new gold and better investment since it has far better liquidity but do need to keep somewhat of a linear metals/crypto holding.
My friend who got me into crypto showed me the bars of silver he bought with bitcoin. At first I was skeptical of crypto, but when I started seeing those holdings as perfectly hedged bets I started to think less that he was crazy. Plus you get the spot (well, cash price at least) on APMEX and sites like that if you pay with crypto.

My wife got a financial advisor who told her to not make any investments until she has 6-8 months worth of savings put in a savings account for a rainy day which for my wife would be about $60k between her med school student loans, our mortgage etc. My wife’s a doctor—unless she gets addicted to painkillers and starts writing her own scrips, she’s not losing her job. This was two years ago—I threw a fit over that advice and said fuck that. Wife played the sexist card saying I don’t like taking financial advice from a woman...
So this advise was two years ago... stock has been up what like 40% since then, bitcoin up 500%, you know how much money that advice has cost us if my wife took it?

Bottom line... fucking fractional reserve banking... yea, I love putting my money in a savings account so the bank can leverage our equity to issue loans with high interest rates while they pay us a dividend that’s far less than the rate of interest... I’ll just stick with cash and metals socked away in a safe.

Feels like everything is at its peak and the only investment worthwhile is a time machine.

Everythings gonna crash hard when baby boomers start dying en masse but the problem is thats probably 20 years away more than 10.
