Filming with tripods

A LOT of people on NS will have something similar to this:

body:
-canon T_i or _D
- panasonic gh2 or 3

lens:
-tokina 11-16

stabilizer:
-glidecam HD_000
-fly cam nano
-opteka thing

and then most will also have a tripod.
if you want us to help you more tell us your setup and we can give advice. the "u" shaped handles won't help you stabilize at all. just help get a better angle.

What I have done a couple times is use a tripod as a stabilizer. Just pull the legs out but don't extend them. Hold two of the legs and it works fine. No money spent if you have a tripod at least

what do you have for equipment?

if you dont have a stabilizer of any kind and are using the 18-55 kit lens then yes a tripod will look much better than a handheld shot

when using a longer lens (anything 50mm > imo) you should typically use a tripod (unless you have a slider or something like it)

wide angle - use a tripod or a stabilizer, really doesnt matter. before choosing though ask yourself what are you trying to convey? are you trying to show that the rail is really tall? - maybe low angle with a tripod. are you trying to show technical ability (switch ups, 3 swap etc)? then maybe get really close with a followcam.

really depends on what you want your audience to see and what you have available to use

Shooting with a tripod is akin to scoping out an location, setting up an easel, and carefully painting polygons on a square.

If that doesn't sound appealing to you, then you won't enjoy the process of using a tripod purposefully.
