Recently someone on here was talking about their gear being stolen. This is terrible, BUT THERE IS A WAY TO SOLVE IT.

Website "LensTag" (https://www.lenstag.com) is a website where you add all of your gear into it, with serial numbers and photos, and if something gets stolen, it is ONLINE.

Additionally, you can install the extension for your browser, and it will look for serial numbers that have been reported as stolen.

This is evidence, if your gear gets stolen and you think you know the people who did it, this proves that the gear is yours.

Even if your gear is not that expensive, making an account and getting the extension could help someone that has expensive gear stolen.

This covers ALL CAMERA GEAR (even batteries, flashes), CELL PHONES, and COMPUTERS (Aswell as hard drives and monitors)

I am not connected to the company, i just recently had a friend get some stuff stolen, and a guy on here recently got his stuff stolen, and this kind of thing doesn't hurt.

Or you just write down your serial numbers, take photos of your gear and give it to your insurance company...

That also works.... But, LensTag.com is way faster... you literally take a photo, write what it is, and you are all set. not to mention, not all of us have insurance on our cameras....

seriously? if you live with your parents you most likely have homeowners insurance.

you live on your own? get renters insurance. have a car? auto insurance

all ways to recover stolen items, just have proof of purchase and photos

Depends on your insurance. I had proof and several photos, and I couldn't get anything back. My parents didn't want to put a claim in for such a small value, plus the deductible would've made what I received from it pocket change. Credit card, homeowners, and auto couldn't do shit for me. Lenstag and the stolen camera finder extension won't hurt anyone, I urge anybody with gear to get it. It may not be yours, but maybe you can help one other person get their shit back. To me, that's worth it.

Thankyou. Often it costs more than it is realistically worth to make a claim.

LensTag is free. And if your cam gets stolen, and you can find it through the app, and tell the police, and they get YOUR cam back, THAT IS FREE!

I honestly dont understand why anyone would deny LensTag's value. It is such a powerful idea, and the more people that hop on it, the more powerful it becomes, because if 10 people join, that is 10 more people constantly searching for your stolen gear. if 1,000,000 people are on it, then that is 1,000,000 people searching for your camera. That is atleast 1,000,000 pages opened a day... (more realistically 1,000,000,000 pages a day).

That is way better than making an insurance claim, and your insurrance charging you more because of it.

It would be more powerful if you could search serial numbers in the lost list. That way shops could check and see if lens that they buy used are stolen. That would give you a much greater chance of recovering it.

And that's because someone bought it of the thief and found out later and decided to be altruistic.

98% of times when your gear gets stolen, it's effectively gone forever and at least insurance pays out. There's no harm in getting lens tag but you shouldn't see it as a replacement for insurance, it's a supplement.

But theives who steal cameras rarely are photgraphers who are looking to take amazing photos with the gear they steal.

They sell it. And more likely than not, it ends up in the hands of a camera store. That camera store goes to sell it and someone looking at it (with the extension) sees it and it alerts the owner.

The more people who do it, the more likely it is to be found by someone just shopping for a camera.

I agree it would be fantastic if they made it a way for camera stores to check gear. Like a search engine. But yet again, it only works if people start using the site..

And i am promoting the site so that if my gear gets stolen, there are more people that increase the chance of getting it back.

dude i don't get why you don't understand insurance.

yes lenstag is great and yea sure do it because its free, but if my camera was stolen from my house/car/whatever, i am not most worried about getting it back. i want the money that it is worth to get something new/better/replacement. its that simple

i pay $20 a month for my renters insurance and that covers 100k in stolen or damaged property, not just limited to a 2k camera kit.
