For sure. When I hiked mount ruapehu in NZ this summer/winter I did it when the main face was solid ice with no foot holds, no crampons or an iceaxe because I decided I needed to get up one way or another. Lucky a couple guys went up in front and so there was a little somethin for the feet but nothing much. The guy in front kept telling me to go back then I'd still be behind them. Was shitting myself at a couple points because I knew it was going to be a long scary as fuck slide down if I slipped.
One of them convince me to just ride down and give up so I tried to get my board on. Got it off my pack and realized there was no way I could get it attached to my my feet without sliding down. Got it back on my back and kept hiking all while my legs were shaking sitting in 1 inch ish foot holds.
On the plus I made it to the top and got one of the best runs of my life on the other side. Glad I didn't do what this guy did.
He's lucky he missed going into any big sets of rocks, didn't hit his friends, didn't snag and roll from higher up.
