Anyone ever deal with suicide in highschool?

This kid in my school killed himself the other day. I didn't know him well but everyone in the school is pretty shook up. A kid at my little brothers school attempted suicide last year too.

MinggYeah one of my best friends from high school just killed herself last week. Shit is so crazy. In my high school there were a couple kids who tried but at least when I was there no one actually killed themselves.

Jamey Rodemeyer went to a school close to me and his death shook up pretty much all of our area. Our school actually implemented this anti bully program district wide as a result and it was pretty intense. Suicide is fuckin terrible.


I never knew Jamie but I knew a lot of his friends. He was bullied to death because he was gay, when I first heard that I couldn't understand how people could be so cruel.

This one guy comitted suicide at my school a few years a go. Literally at school.

Jumped down the gap in between sets of stairs in the middle of the building. 17 meter fall, helicoptered to hospital where he died the next day. He landed in front of a bunch of people (middle of the lunch break), most of them needed professional help for a while after it happened.

there is a large difference between knowing something is wrong, and feeling that something is wrong. a suicidal state of mind is irrational, but in most cases, not delusional. They know its wrong. they know it will hurt people. they dont care. tehy just want their own pain to stop.


Just shut up. You are so one dimensional it makes me sick. You have no idea how varied and complex peoples' struggles, situations, and reasons for doing things are, and instead of being receptive to those possibilities, you just stick to your own bigoted opinion and say things that are not only offensive, but potentially very harmful. So just stop, and consider for once that just because you have your own issues does not mean that you even remotely understand other peoples'.

Sorry that my extremely well informed opinion on the subject upsets you. If you didn't want to read opinions on this subject, ya probly shouldn't have read the thread.

Yes, i absolutely am influenced by my own eperiences. But also, with how much I've been around it, I've talked to and heard from literally 20+ professionals.

I would consider that a well informed opinion.

So you are telling me that those 20+ "professionals" in general consider those who attempt or commit suicide as "selfish, malicious pieces of shits."? I'm sorry but I don't think that would make for a very effective practice.

They aren't there to tell you how to feel. They are there to explain the event, and help you process how you feel about the event

I've talked to and heard from many experts on the subject, I have 1st and second hand experience with it, and I've meditated on it quite a bit.

That doesn't make my opinion well informed?

If, at the end, they still logically understand that killing themselves is wrong, and they know their family/friends/aquaintences will be devastated, but they still go through with it, they can go fuck themselves because they are selfish, malicious pieces of shit.

I have the utmost sympathy, empathy, and respect for people struggling with depression. I have absolutely no respect for people who give up on that struggle and voluntarily pass that pain on to those around them.

do you realize that people who commit suicide have a disease? in many cases they may not "understand" all of what you listed. They feel like there is no way out and in many cases feel like they are taking a load off of their loved ones by killing themselves. They dont just say "Fuck you, I'm out, deal with it." A lot of people with depression feel alone, hated, not wanted, better of dead for evertone - no matter how much love and support they get from family and friends. Humans have a self preservation gene, you are literally wired to keep yourself alive at all costs, being suicidal is a defect in that gene.

Suicides are a god damn shame and the people who commit them are most certainly not selfish malicious pieces of shit.

Of course they are aware that someone will be negatively effected. But the pros outweigh the cons for them, and in my experience speaking with depressed people they often say "but they will get over it fast"

Of course they do not know that for a "fact" they actually most likely know the exact opposite, but it's the overwheliming feeling that makes people make the choice to kill themselves. When you are in a highly depressive, suicidal state of mind it is not like you can just lay out the "facts" and make a rational decision, if people could do that there would be way less suicide, because suicide 9/10 times is an irrational decision and a permanent solution to what is [/b]usually[/b] a problem with a much more rational soltuion.

Obviously suicide is a shitshow for both sides, yes it is going to suck hard for the loved ones of that person but, imagine being so depressed to the point that you genuinely feel that killing yourself is your only option. You may have the odd case where someone kills themself as a fuck you, which is malicious sure. But id go as saying 99% of suicides are not malicious in any way- just an irrational decision made by someone who is mentally ill[\b]. Keep that in mind, you talk about these people as if they are perfectly healthy and capable of rationally laying out facts, weighing the pros and cons, and considering the impacts of their decision. They are not. Mental Illness is real and its a fucking pity that there are people like you who can somehow think that instead of being caused by illness its selfishness and maliciousness.

I don't care how much you meditated on it but you're wrong and so are the 20+ "professionals" who contributed to your horribly uninformed opinion.

clearly joking. death is death, don't sensationalize it. instead of being so softhearted in the way we address suicide why don't we commit harder to creating support systems and helping those with mental health issues overcome their problems. no point complaining about a problem when you aren't doing shit to help you little pussy. donate or volunteer if you're going to bitch about it.

We had multiple suicides when I was in high school, one was a girl I knew fairly well. We weren't super good friends but her family and I were close, her mom was my 6th grade teacher and I went to private elementary school so our relationships with teachers were tight and I still keep in touch. It was a big high school so as a whole the school wasn't incredibly shook up but seeing what it did to her family was incredibly sad.

I lost one of my best high school friends to suicide last summer, that was hard because I wasn't able to make it home for his wake. He was one of the few people from back home that I would make a conscious effort to visit whenever I was in Colorado. It feels strange to go back and not be able to hang out with him and every time I see the old friend group it has this unspoken tension because he was an integral part of it.

One thing I have noticed is all the people from my high school that committed suicide successfully were all seemingly outgoing, fun and extroverted people. It's strange how someone who seems so loved and exuberant can really be battling some major inner demons.

It's weird but sees to be fairly common. Something about making other people happy can help you deal with things and give you a purpose. Idk. I'm really outgoing and social but also scared, paranoid, anxious, depressed about everything and nothing as well.

One of the main tripping points for me is the social stigma around mental health. Many people can't see what's in your head - they find it harder to deal with then with a physical injury, let's say a broken leg. They can't understand the dark dark place that depression takes you to, so the ignorance just magnifies.

Suffering from depression, for me it's hard to describe. It's hard to see any positive whatsoever when you're lying awake at night being torn apart by emotions. It's not a good place to be in, when the only thing you want to do for weeks on end is die.

I rarely talk to people about it - my parents have brushed it under the carpet. The few close friends that I have don't understand/believe when I try to tell them. I think a trap is carrying the burden on your shoulders alone and thinking that you can cope - recently I've started seeing counselors and such, and it's made me realise how unstable and truly insecure I really was when I kept all my problems locked up inside.

It's called depression for a reason. It's no easy path. Like I said before, it's a dark, dark place to be.

I'm not trying to blast out a sob story, just my perspective on my experience with depression.

If anyone needs to talk, I'm here. I don't mind if it's 3am or whatever.

I think its because the added attention from people finding out about your issues just adds to the anxiety, paranoia etc. Sometimes Its hard enough making it through the day without all the extra attention and questions.

Other times it helps to momentarily get lost in a funny or happy moment. When people know your issues they sometimes walk on eggshells which just adds to the loneliness and detachment.

then sophomore year another good friend jumped in front of a train during the 2nd quarter of our final football game. The tracks run about 10' behind the visitors stands, so the whole thing including the investigation played out during our game. We all knew immediately knew what had happened. Not an easy game to play.

I have strong feelings towards suicide.

Not trying to be rude, but do you rate your friends? Also related a junior got drunk and got hit by a train.
