Please Critique My First Edit Ever +k

I honestly thought you did a great job. I think that maybe I would have used a bit more of variation in angles. You had a lot of different angles, except a lot of the same type were grouped close together.

Agreed. Get closer to the subject, but other than that its well done.

I agree with everything previously said, i also think the snow was a little over exposed. Just seemed a little too bright. Not a biggie, just something i noticed.

Good job, just needed like 30 seconds of glidecam footy to mix it up. 10/10 would watch again

I always like seeing some form of b roll in the intro, something to lead you into the edit. as opposed to just jumping straight into clips. as well as when you are introducing a new character/rider. a little b roll of them getting onto the lift, or hiking past, or clipping into thier skis etc really helps to break the edit up into logical segments and helps with flow and keeps viewer attention

Font was a little hard to read sometimes but overall wasn't bad

camera angles are definately something that you could improve. there were a lot of long/ medium shots in there. you should try to get a little closer with a few. also maybe vary the height a bit. the camera was pretty much always at the same level as the rider. maybe try some low angles, and a few higher where you are above the rider.

framing is also something that you can work on. before filming a trick ask yourself "what is it about this that I want the audience to see"? for example you have a trick at 28 seconds in where the action is "behind" the feature. bringing the camera in closer, and making sure that you are shooting from the other side would have accentuated the trick a little more. as it was I was focused more on the view and the background than i was on the trick itself.

make sure that you set the proper white balance, quite often the snow was overexposed and you couldnt tell up from down (use white balance with proper exposure to ensure that your colors come out properly). for white balance bring a white piece of printer paper and use it to set the white balance on the camera prior to shooting.(if you have a white balance card it will obviously work better, but typically we're all on a budget and white paper works fine for being pretty much free) white balance will change with the light so you may need to do this a few times through the course of the day.

you didnt really have any transitions pretty much just cut from one clip to another. perhaps incorparate a few fades or wipes etc. although defiantely dont overuse them.

There was no depth of feild whatsover. if you are shooting with a dslr make sure you incorporate it. it can be used to change where the audience focuses thier attention, and when used right can be a pretty powerful tool. especially for b roll.

thats about all i can think of for now. defiantely better than my first edit! Keep up the good work!

Dude for a first edit that was pretty rad! One thing that stood out to me that I might change if I was you would be getting rid of some of the background noise. I felt it could be kinda distracting at times. I think it would be good to have if your buddy had a funny reaction to you crashing or something but I would personally exclude it otherwise. I would also maybe throw in some more footage of jumps or maybe you hitting natural features but that's just preference I guess. Overall super solid edit. I loved the tricks you threw!
