Jerry vs joey

so instagram has come up with this use call Jerryoftheday, where he/she posts wicked funny pictures of newbie skiers clearly not know what they're doing and we get kicks out of it on the daily. But it has me wondering what ever happened to joey? and why isn't it joey of the day instead? where did joey go and why is he no longer relevant. just stumps me as to the disappearance of such a widely used term by the ski community or at least why it had transformation into jerry. and i searched for any other forums on this subject but couldn't find any, apologies if there is a thread that i missed.

I'd never heard of them being called jerrys until I saw that instagram account too. I always call them gapers but I know people call them joeys in certain areas too. It's a very entertaining account regardless

Everyone I've met in CO calls them Jerry's, everyone on the east coast calls them Gapers/Joey's, people down under call them Punters and that's all I got.

The one of the snowboard strapped in to the front of the board with his back leg was epic.

I think my buddies friends with the guy.

Saw one that was pretty epic the other day. sled dogs and jeans on a pow day, not as a joke. Didn't get a picture though.

I've heard the term "Gorbie" thrown around by a lot of the other instructors at my home hill here in Illinois.

Nah, I say Joey or gaper here in Washington. Never heard anybody say jerry.

term joey may have been coined in the great film "blunt." boyd easley rolls up to a flimer and laments "da fuq, man, cant even jump, buncha joeys crashin all over..."

Yeah I know it's a primarily surfing term, that's probably why I like it. I've heard some other people use it in the park at keystone too.
