Skiing Glades

I'm taking a trip to cannon mountain next week and I would like to start trying to hit some of the glades but I've never done it before. I prefer skiing without poles and I'm much more comfortable but would need/want poles for skiing glades? If anyone else has any other tips that would be great too. I did search bar this but I couldn't find anything covering my specific question.

For skiing poles in my opinion it really depends how good you are with out poles. I like to ski with poles in the trees because planting makes the tight turns easier for me. Also look at the gaps not the trees. Glade skiing is so much fun I'm sure you'll have fun.

look out about 20 feet while skiing trees. dont look at your skis or the ground while skiing. keep your upper body looking down the fall line. and ski with fucking poles you nitwit

Just don't hit any trees and you will be fine

It's so much fucking fun. Just be ready for a lot of stop-and-go your first few times, especially if conditions are bad or you're on a very steep slope. It's a lot of quick reaction time and fast decision making. Also I say use poles, but you could really go either way

im biased cause im not much of a no poles lover but trees are an aspect of skiing that i think poles are nearly a necessity. those tight cutting turns in the trees really benefit from proper pole planting turns

my 2 cents. regardless, have fun. like others said, your body goes where your eyes look. look at the spaces youre going thru, not the trees youre trying to avoid. start slow and stay in control, you can't scrub speed in trees as easily as other places

before dropping into glades I always remind myself 'there are no trees, only the spaces between them.'

Skiing through a glade is really no different than anyplace else. If you like to make similar size turns without poles in similar snow then you will be fine in the trees without poles. If you do use poles just don't use the straps.

yeah forgot to mention. in hairy stuff, especially trees, it's smarter to not use pole straps, because you'd rather lose a pole uphill of you than getting it caught on something and ripping your arm backward

poles = usually not super valuable
arms = generally higher valued by their owners

Your legs will be sore as hell if you've never skied glades before, but youll have a ton of fun dude. Listen to what everyone above has said (especially the pole straps part) and wear a helmet, have fun homie.

Seriously, use poles, and use 'em properly. It's super awkward watching someone ski glades who doesn't plant their turns.

Take it slow, start on easier ones then make it up to harder ones. Remember to keep your head up and look where you want to go.
