Probably has a ton to do with the fact that there isn't as much camber out in the tips and tails. Very common to have even a bit of early rise/rocker on the tips and tails of modern skis. That likely greatly reduces the rooster tail.

on the subject, my new skis (revision talismans, park skis) seem to have way less rise in the tip and tail compared to my other skis and my friends' skis

what decides that? is there some sort of consensus, or different schools of thought, on how much rise you really need in the tip and tail?

Oh there is definitely no consensus. Personally when I'm riding in the east I love full Camber on skis. I'm old school like that. Full camber, lively and softer flex. Mmmmmmmm......

Loads of people way prefer some rise/rocker though. Bit of a personal preference type situation than anything with a solid consensus.

sorry i should have been more clear/descriptive, i know the differing pros and cons of camber rocker hybrid etc. i was referring to just the actual rise in the tip and tail

these particular skis have early rise in the nose but not in the tail, and normal camber otherwise

but both tip and tail look lower than every other ski ive compared it to which i found odd. what could possibly be the downside to the rise being a little higher?

remember when twins first came out, lots of models only had a little rise in the tail for some reason (e.g. dynastar concepts, rossi pow airs, etc etc)?

remember when the JP vs Juliens had a bigger tail rise than tip?

i wonder what the actual functional differences are, like what the threshold is for when it makes a difference

I kinda miss the days of mobbing down a run throwing chunks of snow 15ft in the air behind me. But my moments tip and tail are so mellow they don't really throw anything up anymore.
