Another death on slopes

so, some of you may know from my last thread that here in finland a huge three week holiday season is on. that makes the northern ski resorts full of people, with very different skill levels.

and today the worst happened. an 11-year-old kid crashed in to a snowbarrier/fence after losing control and died. and what makes it more ghostly is that this incident happened a 30mi drive away from my home resort. the staff at ylläs (place of this sad event) said that the weather was perfect, and slopes were in excellent condition.

this makes me very sad, it's the most horrific ending to someones holiday, losing your child.

thoughts and prayers to this little kids parents, other family, friends and all of the close ones.

This is really sad to hear. A lot of people do not realize that skiing is a very dangerous sport NO MATTER WHAT you are doing. Sure, skinning up huge avalanche prone mountains is more dangerous but many tourists come out to ski without realizing the danger beforehand. I have no idea if this family was experienced with skiing but it is really sad to hear. Skiing is still an extreme sport, there is always a risk of injury or death and people need to seriously consider that before they try it.

this is really sad...
i cant even fathom putting myself in the shoes of the family that lost their child this holiday season.
my thoughts and prayers also go out to the family, i have never been in the same spot as them but i know how painful it is losing someone you love and i can't imagine what it is like to lose a child. i wish the best to this family and to have a healthy recovery.

Heard that his father watched him to die and the kid had no idea or skill to ski at all. Way too hard slope for him and i dont know what his parents were thinking when they went there. More people should go to skischool to learn at least basics of skiing.
