On3p filthy riches broken???!!!!

the edge is starting to crack where it meets underfoot and peel up. only rode em for 10 to 12 days and they started to do this, trying to get a refund dont see how this could happen. these skis are supposed to be the toughest and most durable on the market. probably a manufacturing error wanna hear your guys thoughts this is happening on both skis in the exact same

lol my computer glitche out on me those are just the same three pictures just duplicated, no i don't ski that hard this is only my second year and i can't really do rails and i haven't tried with these just been ridin around it has been a bit icy lately but otherwise no crazy impacts

its all good man, but yep thats an edge crack , it shouldnt be a big deal as long as it doesnt pull out. i would keep and eye on it, but nothing too serious. you can get edge cracks from hitting rails, or hitting rock hard

If you're juat skiing around normally then it could possibly be covered in the warranty.

Read the warranty. Usually it states what's covered. And contact them for sure

I can see on your base where you hit something... highly doubt the edges would just break like that of it's own accord. If it was just one ski, ok, maybe, just maybe it was a brittle edge or something. But for them both to do it, try not sideslipping over rocks.
In fact, looking at the pics again, your brake appears to be bent out of shape too... are you sure you don't beat on them?

Double post but wanted to add, those edges look railed to me. In the first pic the base angle looks to be wayyyyy off flat, also known as "someone bashed this on a metal bar" syndrome.
Second pic, the edge has clearly taken an impact (just behind the shiny reflection) - you can see where the edge has mushroomed over on the corner to create a burr. The edge has also been slightly pushed into the ski at this point. There's pretty much only one thing that will create a uniform, relatively flat burr out from the base edge like that, and it's hitting the ski with a pipe.
CSI: Newschoolers conclusion: you've hit rails on these.

Scumbag OP. Ice doesn't crack edges like that, only bashing them against rails and rocks cracks edges as thick as those.

Edges crack, it happens, if treated properly though you won't have any more issues.

Step 1) Take a file and smooth over the contact points of the crack, this will prevent them from catching more when you're on rails.

Step 2) gummy stone underfoot to smooth out any other transitions

Step 3) Be more aware of that crack, check it often, and try to avoid using that ski on your primary front foot. Basically, swap your skis around more often (doing this from the beginning would have been more helpful, but you're here now).

Step 4) Next time, detune underfoot before your edges touch anything metal. If you properly detune underfoot you'll be less likely to crack an edge, making the ski last longer. (You may want to touch up your detune on the other edges while you're working on the crack...


I've had edge cracks on almost every pair of my Filthy Richs, 1 right underfoot on either ski (cause I swap skis every day), once I notice the crack I follow the steps above. My original FRs (2011/2012) just got retired by the person I sold them to a few weeks ago. That's 3-4 years of heavy park park riding. It's all about how you take care of your skis.

i know you want to baby your skis for the first 10 days, but this can happen at any point with any skis. if you are taking a first run on them and hit a rock or a rail wrong, this is going to happen. someone gave directions earlier to prevent it from being a problem. follow those.

OP, did you detune your edges before you hit rails? Did you file down any burrs?

Do you want cracked edges? Because that's how you get cracked edges.

Yeah ik, i said that i didn't hit rails in this thread cause I wanted to see if it was possible for the sidewall to come apart like it did, I've talked to on3p and told them everything and they were super cool about it. But yeah they weren't defined properly, I rode them on rails without detuning them everyone says that riding rails detunes them so im not sure I understand this fully. But just to clear things up i haven't screwed on3p over and yes I have learned my lesson about detuning properly

i understand that they cant cover rail damage but its not like all i was doing was huge disasters onto rails and beating the crap out of them, i treated them the best you can treat a park ski, they were six hundred dollar skis and i rode them for twelve days.
Warranties arent always black and white and maybe theyl make an exception and warranty them. but in no way am i scamming them, they are aware of what happened i havent lied to them and they can see them when i send them in. there a professional company and can make their own decisions

Not sure about the warranty because they did break from rails but the sidewall coming apart seems kinda weird im just hoping for a discount on next years filthy riches or maybe kartels

so you complain about the durability of a ski at the start of the thread, saying you don't hit a lot of rails or ski too hard, now say that, yeah, the edge cracked because you hit rails. To my knowledge, no company warranties their product against rail damage. That'd be like saying, "Here, Duckonquack, take our ski and hit it with a metal hammer and see what happens! Don't worry, we'll send you a new one when the edge inevitably cracks!"

Also, any sidewall damage you're experiencing is probably also related to rail damage. If you crack an edge, that creates a space for water to start seeping into the core of the ski. That will allow the ski to start separating, whether that's the edge from the base, base from the core, topsheet from the core, or in your case, the sidewall from the core of the ski. Rail damage; probably not a warranty issue, but best of luck. Like others have said, detune your edges before hitting rails and this sort of thing is much less likely to happen.

that is a rail impact. It took me about 1/5 of a second to figure that out. Bull shit you never hit a rail on them.

The idea that hitting rails on skis should be covered by warranty is fucking laughable. When the fuck is anything in the world warrantied when you smash a metal pipe against it with over 300lb? LOL. edges crack on park skis, its gonna fucking happen. dulling your edges with a file can help postpone it, but that shit is gonna happen. Its why no one hit's rails on their pipe skis.

guess what? ill probably get 2 seasons (or a bit less) on my filthy's. it sucks but its part of park skiing. on3p's still hold up better than a lot of other skis, so if my options are get one season on a pair of $400 skis or 2 on a pair of $600 skis, ill take the on3p's. plus they are the most fun skis ive riden, there is a very good chance i buy another pair at some point next season

to put it in perspective, i have friends that go through 2-3+ pairs of factions, armadas, icelandics, etc per season. park skiing destroys skis, if you want your skis to last, dont hit rails
