What's the best airport to fly into?
Any advice in terms of finding cheaper flights from the states?
How many days would be sufficient in order to get the full experience of NZ?
theabortionatorWhen I flew back I saved $300 on a flight back from sydney, it only cost me 180 to fly there so I got to fly to sydney for a week for almost free. Worth looking into if you have the time.
OP, where are you going? If you're north island at all I'd highly recommend the tongariro crossing. Pretty epic. I did it in a storm but still had a great time. Can be a good amount of snow up there depending on when you go.
If I go back I'm going to do the hobbit thing. Wasn't that worried about it when I was there before but would be kind of cool. That's somewhere near hamilton I believe.
Obviously go bungee jumping and or skidiving because yolo and stuff.
I didn't get to do anything south island as I decided to come back to the states early to see phish so that's on the agenda for me.
Where are you skiing? I put in some applications for NZ/Aus. Even if I do Aus I'm going to fly to NZ and kick it for a bit. The lady that owns the place I was living said I can come back and visit rent free for a few weeks. I think she just wants to give me an excuse to come back and that's a good one.
A bunch of kiwi nsers floating around here though. Cool that you're going with the rents though. You'll probably be able to see more. I didn't have a car or feel like renting one so even on my days off my ability to go places was limited.
The bridge to nowhere and some other stuff looked cool but never made it. Heard real good things about the beaches but also never made it.
Hopefully you can get a good taste of the north and south island.
Rosa_ParkThat was literally the response i dreamed of but assumed id never get. im going to both islands and ill be there the end of june and most of july. I hope to ski at cordrona and snow park but im not positive. itd be dope to see you. +k for the thorough response though that was ideal

Loco-Deer-SlayerNorth Island is touristy (compared to south). Auckland, Wellington are pretty baller. I did some seriously awesome mountain biking in Wellington. I would recommend Rotorua they also have incredible mountain biking and zorbs. If you are into scuba diving some of the best in the world is off the coast up north. I really enjoyed Napier and New Plymouth.
I lived in New Zealand for 7 months and had a chance to spend two of those months living in a hostel / skiing and doing a 5000km-ish road trip from top to bottom. I have seen most of NZ and it's incredible. There is so much to do. I don't want to write an essay but if you want more specifics I can always help.
Loco-Deer-SlayerYeah, I did a semester abroad and then took two months off after for me to just explore the area. I was visiting/coach surfing down in Dunedin and my old german buddy mentions he has a car and he is doing this road trip. I was originally planning on skiing for two months, but just decided cut it in half. We ended up going to Fiji too. It was a fucking blast.
Loco-Deer-SlayerThere is a ferry that connects the South island to the North (Nelson -> Wellington) which you can bring your car on. Not too expensive and travel time isn't too bad.
Loco-Deer-SlayerYeah convenience of a car is great. I had my fair share of weird hitch hiking experiences too hahaha.

kiwicuntI'm from NZ, you can ski (Queens Town), mountain bike (rotorua) and that's it!
