Pass Pulled for 2 Weeks

Some nice ski patrol over at Beaver Creek pulled my pass for doing a tiny ass 3 over a knoll. The guy was a real douche about it too, trying to come up with every single possible bad outcome that could happen from doing a "twirly," he called them. Anyways, going in to appeal this bullshit tomorrow.

Anyone been in a similar situation? Any suggestions on appealing a suspended pass?

Why would a patroller pull your pass for doing a 3? Was it like mountain safety or something? I've never seen a patroller do anything other than pole clap, whoop it up, or maybe try and do a bigger and better 3.

Thats how all VailResorts places are run, they have a new mountain ops
corporate team and theire really pushing safety this season. It sucks, you just gotta stay away from the slow zones

I got a warning a couple weeks back at Vail. Long story short, I was going pretty fast and the guy had a reason to stop me. He said my speed alone wasn't the issue, it was that it was a slow zone. I pointed out There were zero slow signs until immediately before the lift maze, he said I should know where slow zones are (it's not in the Skier Responsibility Code if you want to get technical). I'll let you guys decide if that's fair.

Anyways he told me another warning and I get my pass pulled for two weeks, so I'm assuming you got one of these warnings. I certainly thought an official warning was extreme in my case, so I don't doubt that you did as little as pop a 3 to get a "violation" as well. But I think there is pretty much no chance he skipped the warning and suspended your pass for two weeks, so I think you received a warning and should have been on your guard for yellow jackets.

I've been skiing in Beaver Creek since I was born and I'm 16 now and I've had my pass suspended once and almost a second time. The first was for skiing along a boundary line that I probably crossed at one point and the second that I almost got it take for was flying though a slowzone and jumped off an edge where there was a no jumping sign.

At my mountain I've never even treated a slow zone differently than any other area. No matter how crowded the slope is I'll be bombing the run switch and I've never gotten more than being told to turn around

in ontario they take not giving a fuck to another level I guess, only time I've ever seen passes pulled is for people poaching closed runs on a pow day right in front of the lift. patrol was more pissed about having to actually do something I think

I had a similar run in at Beaver Creek as well a couple of years back. The safety guys in yellow jackets spotted my buddy and I air out on a roller on a fairly steep groomer run. We skiied right up to one of them that flagged us down and he seemed pretty and pissed. He took our passes and once he saw mine was an employee pass he just let us go with a warning. Luckily he was a cool guy but with Vail resorts you have to watch out for the family/slow zones or else they will fuck you and in some instances make you take classes to get your pass back.

Also/Side note there can always be a possibility of a little kid underneath the roller so always be aware especially on weekends.

wow this is crazy, in Europe and Sweden where I live patrol is cool with almost everything.
Just yesterday we hooked on to the lift about 3/4 of the way up to be able to lap a powder jump, one of the bosses of patrol came up and said sick jump and asked if we were doing good.
Always spraying the slow signs and always doing twirlys over knolls.

People in the US sound so unfriendly?

Rich dick heads and their familes on ski vacations. They're usually determined to ruin their expensive vacation by bitching about any and everything. Lifts were too slow, the rental attendant gave me red boots. Unfortunately "people skiing too fast" is a common complaint.

The extra step Vail resorts take is to profile season pass holders, there is literally zero incentive for them to allow you to ski. They already have all the money you're gonna spend, you arn't buying lunch, you arn't paying for parking, you arn't paying for lodging. It's in their financial interests to send you home, keep you off the snow, keep you from using their facilities.

For the future my advice to you when waved down by a ski patroller is to simply pretend that you did not see them or hear them. When I'm skiing any of the vail resorts I know they give out warnings and tickets in slow zones so as soon as I see one I start making turns again and keep skiing down the mountain, not stopping at the lift. If the patroller actually engages in a high speed chase with you, you won't be the only one getting in trouble, and you can always say you had no idea they were following you. Many times patrollers have started to follow me, and then stop as soon as I pass the lift. Don't try this at base areas though, unless they are really busy and you're in an outfit that blends in pretty well.

After seeing man almost die at Sunday River when he was struck in the head by a knee of a skier who aired off a roller. I can say I do understand their reasoning in not wanting people to air rollers. However it could be handled differently. My idea is a sign that makes skiers aware of a blind drop.

This is why i like skiing at a small mountain. I can just say im terrain park manager and head freestyle coach and it really shuts them up. im scared for when i go out to Utah and get my pass pulled for riding just like do here

No, it really is bad at the Vail resorts. You can be skiing by at a regular pace on an empty run and they will hassle you if you don't look like a gaper.

Victim blaming when someone's prohibited from skiing is pretty shitty, as someone who's had their pass pulled for no reason: Fuck you and your assumptions.

ive literally never had a bad experience with patrollers, they always pole clap and get stoked if you hit a natural feature and sometimes try to out do you. they started where you are, season pass holders, and most of them grew up skiing.

yellow jackets and safety are a different story.

I'm always surprised by those pass pulled stories. I don't think anyone has ever had their pass pulled in Europe for that, at least I don't know of anyone who has ever been bothered by patrol for that kind of thing, speeding or whatever. Those stories seem pretty unreal to me.

I guess north american resorts have to protect their interest because of the suing mentality, but I wouldn't like feeling like I'm not free to shred my home mountain as hard as I want.

Vail yellowcoats are unlike anything else in the ski world. I was just as doubtful as most of you until I went to a vail resort for the first time quite a while ago. Those guys are fucking dicks.
