passion of skiing compared to other sports

since skiing is almost like nothing else. i.e. snoboarding has its skateboarding, surfing, wakeboarding, carve boarding etc who agrees/sees what Im saying when our sport of newschool skiing might have a stronger hold on people then any other sport out there? I'm dead serious when I say this based on observation of people's personalities towards skiing and skiing in general. Maybe its just the progression of the sport and maybe all sports go through this but I really DONT think so. Simply b/c skiing has a its moments where shit has to be RIGHT ON. weather has to be good, boots have to fit, bindings adjusted, skis, EVERYTHING is $$$$, gas money, waking up early, inconviences like getin shit in and out of the car then walkin up a dirty parking lot to the mt, dealing with patrol, skiing high, listening to music when skiing, the fact that we hav to wait at least 5 -6months ( average person ) to ski next season, skiing backwards which is honestly like nothing else and the future of it is incredible i think.....i mean shit the list goes on and on. All of this contributes to people and how strong skiing has a hold on them. I mean I know kids that drive 4hours for a day trip and spend over 2000 a year and they barely ski more than 30 days! Who catches my drift?

um. . . .I guess I do. i dont mind spending all my available money and some credit on skiing every year. However, I spend way more on my biking and windsurfing gear. It's retarded expensive for that stuff, but there is far fewer extra costs so that helps a lot.

Sure, we're all junkies, even if our personal tastes vary a little. Lots of people are junkies for their sports too though - climbing, paragliding, surfing, etc.

Yeah dude its like that for any sport people get into, not just skiing buddy. I know lots of people who are just as stoked to go climbing or biking as I am to ski....so in otherwords no you are an idiot and your post was mostly idiotic rambling.

everybody that feels strongly about a sport will most likely feel the same way alot of us feel towards skiing. i think that all sports that you can really build a lifestyle around are sick. skiing, surfing, and climbing are all examples

i dont know of any other sport that grabs everyone who gets involved like skiing. everyone i know that starts skiing gets hooked, more than skateboarding, basketball..anything.

i know a ton of people who are indifferent to skiing, a few who hate it, and a ton that love it. but very few who, if they had the opportunity, to make their life skiing

i live in alaska.. theres not much to do up here and im lazy so skiing is really the only thing sports wise that i do, even though its 45 minutes to alyeska, my resort. so yeah, it's way worth it. i think skiing is unique too. when you see a skier do something super sick in the air or on a rail, i think it has a greater 'whoa' effect on people than stuff like snowboarding. thats how it is for me anyways

its more of an addiction. If i wasnt skiing I would probably be a much worse person. I would probbaly be spending my money on drugs and shit.
when you carry a heavy 8X3 piece of 3/4 inch plywood from a construction site over half a mile accross campus greens on your head at 7 on a friday night to hit a rail that you are very likely to have been kicked out of already, you know your addicted.

yes! iv'e been free skiing since the '99-'00 season eventhough when snowboarding really caught on i still wanted to ski just becasue it felt good and i didn't want to be like others and become a snowboarder. now it's all changed or about to change when people want to become a skier. it's all gonna help the sport.
