Is A U.S. Backyard Park Possible?

I just read the article on Backyard Park in Finland. To me it seems like the perfect atmosphere for skiing: good vibes, great park, and FREE!!!. It made me wonder if something like this could happen, if so, where, and who would be involved? I hope this gets people thinking as it could lead to a new way to shred for a lot of people.

nope, liability. I remember when I was like 10 the neighbor kid went in on his backyard, similar to what you are talking about, until a kid split his spleen.

I mean we have skateparks, so its not impossible but I doubt we'll see one thats free any time soon.

there is a park in portland ME called pacen park and its free, I've never been there but I dont think its that great.

check out Ruby Hill in Denver, Winter Park sets up rails there and it has some snowmaking for when it doesnt snow

Payson is pretty crappymost of the time, not maintained and usually an ice sheet.

Skate parks are by local council. Backyard Park is by a bunch of skiers. Knowing America's culture of sueing, it would be shut down within a day.

Of course it is. The park would be the easiest thing to build imo. The legal aspects and securing the land would be the tough part.

If the land was available and the legal side figured out, getting donations and some features built wouldn't be a big deal. People love donating to the kids, and skiing snowboarding, recreation, terrain parks are for the kids so would be too bad.

Could build it next level legit if you wanted to.

As mentioned there are some free town run spots that have rails in the states.

I'm not sure if Wisconsin would be very good for it. This season Minnesota wouldn't be good for it at all but there are a few really good places throughout MN where a free park would be neat.

Myself and a group of around 6 others built a series of rails and cleared two paths in the woods between two friends' houses and made such a fun run out of it. We've all gone to college and moved on but the days when it snowed and we could ride the woods with all of our friends were some of the best in high school. It's easy, just spend a lot of time building rails and find a hill to clear, preferably one with varying pitches, and just build as you see fit.

I guess you could have people sign a waiver, but that wouldn't release you from all liability. It would help though.

Are you talking about just building your own backyard park. This could be done but to me its a massive waist of time and way to much effort. I own 50 plus acres at my house up north in northern NH which has a mountain on the property and me and my brother will skin up and ski down it every once in a while. If we wanted to build a park and invite people over like in Finland it could easily be done but I'd rather ski at mountains then spend countless hours building a park. Plus to have a good park you need to know how to Weld to make rails. Since I can't do that there's no chance my friends and I would ever attempt this. That is why we just have it so we are close to the mountains.

This would be sweet, but I don't think that it's possible for the U.S.

If it was back in the 1970 this would be possible (legal wise), where everyone didn't sue everyone's grandma for doing some shit. I wish we would go back to how shit was...

people get hurt, deal with it. You are responsible for the shit you do, it's not someone else's fault just because it was in their yard.
