I can spin off of rails and onto some smaller rails and boxes. However when it comes to jumps i have a really hard time. I spin both ways. Equally uncomfortable. I can only spin when I pole plant when going to the right, and when going to the left i cork it out and land back seat. Its super uncomfortable and scary. I also am uncapable of doing a 180, I always bring it around to 360. Is there anything anyone can reccomend on how I can relearn how to spin? Not be a bitch and just pick a way to spin, or continue to spin both ways?
You're probably not popping. You don't want to go into the lip hesitant or scared, so take a step back, find some smaller jumps and get comfortable on them. Work on popping and air awareness, and then dial in those 180s, even if you have to session a 6 foot jump for an afternoon.
Pop hard and turn your head and shoulders looking behind you until you spot your landing, your legs will come around naturally. Don't overthink it either.
Popping is one thing, but pop doesn't really help you get around without some grip. Your basic stance is wider than shoulders to get your edges cutting into the snow so when you do pop you direct the force upwards and into the rotation, rather than having your skis sliding over the takeoff. Carving has the same purpose, where the carve forces your edges into the snow for grip.
just take your time. start small and do 180's. when you feel comfortable move onto 360's. when you spin past 180, always remember to look where you're going to spin and pop forward (you do this so you don't land backseat.)
when you come into the jump, be a little crouched down aswell. wide stance is important
I myself have had troubles with spinning so I know first hand what it's like not being able to get it. It also might be easier to try it out in a powder kicker or something that isnt in the park. this way when yuo fall it won't hurt so much.
Thank you for the input. I think im just not commiting, or in the case of 180s, just over commiting. I carve into every spin, all I have to do is continue the rotation, I got it down tonight. Thank you all so much!
