Anyone been to Norway?

Seriously considering booking a flight for next fall. Just going for a week or two. Probably wouldnt be skiing unless the season starts late nov- ear dec.


Would be flying into oslo. Just wondering whats accessible for hikes and stuff to do. How hard it is to get around. If I can make some moves and do some proper hiking I'd probably rock 2 , 2 and a half weeks. If I'm just kicking it in one spot one week would prolly be enough.

I know nothing so any advice would be cool.

Norway has amazing ice climbing. If you go, you have to eat Lutefisk.

I lived just outside of Oslo a few years ago. First of all as a heads up, the Oslo area is flat! loads of crazy nature around, all of the mountains are quite a way from Oslo.

I'd try to get there as early as early as possible.

autumn is beautiful, but if you're unlucky you might not see the sun at all.

public transport is very reliable, pleasant and easy to use, but it isn't cheap. long distance trips are usually cheaper if you book in advance:

nsb.no

basically everything costs a lot (food, gas, you name it), but you can get around cheaply if you try.

Camping is amazeballs in Norway. Cheaper than a hotel obviously, and there's a law that allows you to camp anywhere on public property (IE 90% of the forest that surrounds oslo).

fishing is great if that's your thing.

I could go on an on, so if there's anything specific you want to know about then just say

Never been to Norway but I have been to Sweden and it was a lot of fun there are actually some beaches with fairly warm water and there are also nude beaches so thats a pretty cool thing. Saw my first tits in Sweden.

Whaile you are there, make sure you try their various snuss brands from sweeden, and go to the viking ship museaum.

I would check out Danmark too if you get the chance, if you have any questions pm me, I grew up in copenhagen, and know a lot about the area/culture.

Definitely check out Denmark as well. I was just in Copenhagen for 4 months and it is an amazing city, and cheaper than Oslo (but still somewhat pricey). Also flights between the two are fairly inexpensive

There's a bunch of stuff to do in and around Oslo. What exactly are you planning on doing?

Skiing in Oslo in november probably wont happen, all the hills/"mountains" around the city usually open december - january. Food is expensive. You wont have to spend $50 for a small pizza as mentioned above, but prepare to spend more than usual on food, especially if you're planning on eating out most nights.

Beware of hookers and drug dealers downtown at night, there's a lot of them. They're not aggressive or anything, but they approach you and ask if you want whatever they're selling.

Some places you should see
Holmenkollen - ski jumping hill, you can see it from almost anywhere in the city. See it during the day and you can go to the top and get a great view, or go at night and just walk around. If the lights are on (they usually are at that time of year) it looks pretty cool at night, and you can walk around pretty much the whole area.

Vigelandsparken - A bunch of statues and sculptures of naked people in weird positions. Fountains during the summer, but these are turned off when it gets too cold.

Akershus Festing - A fortress in the middle of down town. It has lights at night and it looks pretty cool. You can also walk around pretty much anywhere you want, and the guards will let you know if some places are of access. Be careful, you can easily fall off the edges some places, and it's a fairly big drop to the concrete below.

If you're into urban hiking, i'd take a walk along Akerselva. It's a river that runs through the city with some pretty cool buildings along it. Beware of junkies though, they're harmless but look like shit.

If you plan on going out at night, Thursday or Saturdays are the best nights. Thursday is mostly for students, and there are a few bars/clubs that are pretty good. Just ask around and people will let you know where to go. Right now Horgan's and Lawo are the go-to places on Thursdays, but that might change. On Saturdays just follow the crowds and the pretty girls, and you'll definitely find some place cool. Grünerløkka is a really popular area, not your typical dance clubs but more smaller bars and hang-out places. A lot of hipsters though.

Anything else you had in mind? A week is a little short to really go anywhere other that Oslo, but it's doable. I live in Oslo, hit me up if you have any questions.

I knew it. Scared that I'm going to board a flight, taxi around the airport and then pull back in. Maybe they'll rock the plane and make plane noises into the microphone.

No plan just planning on going because it seems like a good idea and the flights cheap. Probably won't eat out much. Going to book a hostel for the stay. Might rock some cheap food there and go out once or twice for food. Down to take some pictures, wander around. Pretty good at finding stuff to do. Down to check out a museum or too as well, museums are my shit.

Hookers and junkies don't really bother me. Glad to here there mellow. They're like that in canada too. It's nice when people aren't aggressive. That said I'll probably avoid those aras unless Im going somewhere on the other side.

PS: Does norway actually exist or will my plane just circle the airport with a guy making plane noises?

Went for a week a couple years ago.

If you're looking to hang out in Oslo for a day or so check out the oslo pass. it includes admission to a couple museums, buses and subway. The subway is what you want to use. The bus system was sort of confusing and we couldnt figure out the schedule.

You would also want to get a rail pass. Most you purchase will say something like 5 train rides in a week or something like that. So I would get an Oslo pass to hang out in Oslo for a couple days and then take a train ride out to the mountains do some hiking and camping then come back in.

Anyone know if you can still check out the Kjeragbolten in november? Friend told me about it and looks like something I would love as I was planning on looking into some cool hikes.

Figure it might be sketchy if in the fall with snow and stuff but if it's doable I'd love to.

If you're planning on seeing Kjeragbolten, you should check out Preikestolen and Trolltunga in the same hike. It's very doable, and there shouldn't be much snow in november.

Completely down. I'm fine with doing multiple hikes. Even if I can just knock off one of them. Doing that for a day, hitting some museums and other stuff around oslo a couple days and then doing a day or to in stockholm would be a good enough trip for me. Not sure what to do around stockholm if I go so maybe 3 days oslo, 3 stockholm and 1 day doing those hikes in norway.

Idk, just winging it. King of stoked about the hikes. Thats my favorite thing to do new places, I love exploring nature.

Had pretty much no idea what was out there for hikes when I booked the flights or how it would be that time of year but just figured I'd book it and hope it wasn't a bust. Looking like a good idea so far.

Idk. Even if I just lounge around in Oslo it'll still be cool. For $363 can't beat it.

I've never been to Ringkollen, but I imagine it will be better than opening weekend at Oslo Vinterpark. I think it's like 40 bucks for a day pass, but they might have cheaper tickets since theres only like one slope opening..

also for allegedly being the most expensive city in the world, oslo is very doable.
if youre poor you can get two slices of pizza for 4.50 ish USD. Also the hostels are right around 25 + or - which is comparable to most places.

10 USD for an all day bus pass. I think a train all the way across the city was under 5.

idk. super reasonable imo. maybe expensive to live there but its so doable I wouldnt even break a sweat if youre poor and thinking of going.


Also went out for beers that were 7. Some good beers and there were cheaper options.

I shouldn't have told the dude at customs I just came because of a cheap flight lol. He was hassling me about it.

I mean I get it. its expensive or whatever and I had 0 plans but I had a flight home, more than an adequate amount of $ in my bank accounts and it wasnt even bad.

If I stay in the same hostel when I get back from stockholm ill try to take a picture with the hookers on the corner there.

Im in the city center in oslo at the moment. m flying to Finland the 10th. Found out rinkollen is still open in honefoss so might get over there later in the week.

Idk. no real plans. found out the hikes I want to do might be too snowed in. Down to ski anywhere if its not super hard to get there and they rent gear.
