KravtZpretty big douche thing to stick on your car. Dont like Vail? dont ski there its simple. They are a large corporation and all about money just like any other company / mountain / person out there. Season pass apparently is still a hell of a deal. If you owned a mountain and could charge 159 a day why wouldnt you?
BloomOuterwearDon't like Vail? Then don't ski at any of their mountains. I dropped about $600 on an Epic Pass this year and guess what, I've skied Vail, Beaver Creek, Park City, Canyons, Breckenridge, Abasin, and Keystone. If anything, Vail Resorts has made skiing more terrain more accessible for me. I have no problem with that.
I would guess they have such a high ticket price to control the amount of people on the mountain. If the ticket price was low, there'd be a lot more people stealing your pow turns or cutting you off in the park, which I would doubt you would like either.
I'm tired of hearing people bitch about Vail Resorts.
SubstituteThese two posts are pretty much the same... Yet the first one has 33 down votes and the one from Bloom has 22 up votes. NS is the most consistently inconsistent forum I have ever been on.
BlurstI realize that it takes a hell of a lot more money to run a massive resort like Vail than it does to run a three lift operation like the one that I'm talking about, but I truly believe that it is fair to assume that to operate with a healthy profit for the resort and its parent company, it doesnt need to charge $160 a day for lift tickets. I think that is something that can be universally agreed upon.
Also what does me taking a basic economics course have to do with this argument? I have taken basic economics courses, I've also taken advanced economics courses. Just because I have a different view of how the world should operate doesn't mean that I'm uninformed.

KravtZHey life aint fair man. Im just a realist. Vail caters and attracts to high net worth families. They don't want average joes who bring their own lunch, stay in off mountain lodging, etc. The epic pass is a hell of a deal and a really great deal for anyone who lives in the area. Maybe my view is biased considering I deal with large companies all day every day who look to buy/sell businesses. But for real...anyone in vail corporate wants to increase share price. Thats what its about. If Vail can charge $159 a day and people will pay they should. Vail doesn't want people who can't afford to spend that. Skiing is a rich white mans sport. They don't want other types of people there
SubstituteThanks? What did that have to do with what I said? Honestly I don't give a fuck about vail. I have never been there, and I never will go.
selfiejesusDuring summer training, I got a really bad concussion. Still suffering , but still wanted to ski. I knew I wouldn't be skiing as much, but I still wanted to, but I had to pay the $600 for the Epic, which included all of the other resorts I would not be traveling to....which is ridiculous, in my opinion.
MinggIs an epic pass the only option? Like you can't buy just a regular season pass for the individual mountains?

BlurstBecause its exploitative and makes our sport even more inaccessible to the average person than it already is.
The more people involved with skiing the better, not because "it'll bring more money to the industry mannnnn" but because everyone in the world should have the right to experience something as amazing as we have the privilege of experiencing on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
malonius_funkSkiing is not intended for the average person. Sure, there are those that make it work, but as a whole skiing is made up of people who have enough time and money to spend it skiing rather than trying to improve their quality of life. You said it yourself; skiing is a privilege. Please don't tell me that if Vail didn't exist everybody would have the resources to be able to ski.
While I don't agree with Vail Resorts plan and their rules and regulations, I do think it is interesting that you say they make our sport "more inaccessible to the average person." You do realize that the Epic Pass gives access to 12+ resorts around the country for what, like $600? I may be wrong, but the $150 gapers and Texans pay for a lift ticket allows Vail to offer the Epic Pass for so cheap therefore allowing many people--who could not afford it otherwise--to be able to ski.
I think that you should think more critically about this issue instead of making a vague rebuttal to an argument.
theabortionatorI judge anybody who reps shit like this and is serious. Something something down with the corporations man!
Skiing should be free!
Also it's not like Vail is the only conglomerate orcorporation in skiing.
Fuck stupid trendy bandwaggon haters.
Or just stay outraged...
selfiejesusNo, not anymore unless you wanted to buy day passes. It's dumb.
