Is corbets actually ALL THAT?

It's fun, but not really the reason to go to Jackson. Jackson is an incredible mountain with so much more terrain than just Corbet's, which is good to check off the list, and isn't necessarily easy the first time, but ultimately nothing compared to experiencing Jackson as a mountain rather than the home of Corbet's Couloir.

you were gonna fly all the way to Wyoming to hit one cornice? honestly corbets is a great run and isnt really that hard to ski, but jackson is a huge mountain with so much else to offer. just the vert on one tram lap is impressive, not to mention the insane terrain on the mountain.

Corbet's has a magnetic allure to people not unlike yourself. But do not succumb unless conditions are prime enough to send it large over the goat path.
In my humble and biased opinion, Jackson > Revy.

Go To Jackson Hole before Revy any day (as long as Jackson Hole is in a good snow cycle obviously). If you don't do the backcountry thing Revy is incredibly overrated.

Yeah I mean corbets isn't exactly a hard couloir, you can just ski in and as soon as you're in you basically either take 2 or 3 turns and you're out or you straightline out of the rocks and start turning. The cool thing about corbets is airing in and like you said on a good day thats the time if you wanna jump in. I personally would never air in, but with like a foot of fresh you could boost into corbets and just straight line out, itd be so epic.

The guys who know Corbet's well can drop in creatively all day long with no problems. For tourists like me, it is way more challenging. Taking the obvious route in sucks. It is so hard it will make you see stars. I would definitely suggest a mouth guard. You land on a goat trail that takes you from skier's left to right around the rock, and if you can't scrub speed quick enough you will go face first into the right wall. The problem with jumping in is that you have to air in far enough to clear the goat trail. If you landed on that, it would wreck you. Lighting is also a huge factor. When the light is really flat, it seems like suicide dropping in, especially if it is your first time. If it's sunny and soft, it would definitely be easier.

The only time I have skied it, I was lucky. First, it was actually open. When I skied up the light was really flat. A guy dropped in on a snowboard right in front of me and ragdolled all the way to the bottom. I saw that and I am almost chickened out. Right about the time I was about to ski around, the sun broke through the clouds just a little; these local race kids showed up and dropped in on 223 CM downhill skis. The shame of skiing away from it at that point would have been more than I could stand. So stoked that I skied it, because it was one of the best experiences I have had on skis. I agree with Heath that once you get in, the turns aren't hard, but it is definitely fun. There are two other nose like rocks in the center on your way down that you can air off of and they are a blast. In the post pictures of your favorite run, the second photo is a long distance shot of me airing off of the upper rock.

There is a mystique about Corbet's. Many really good skiers go to Jackson and don't get to ski it for one reason or another and they always regret it. A friend of mine was just there and it was closed until the very last day he was there. He still didn't ski it and he rips. I think he just kept looking over the closed ropes into it during the week and just psyched himself out when it finally opened. He wouldn't be the first.

corbets is cool, that being said, i didn't hit it when i was there. honestly there is so much good skiing in JHole it would impossible to have a bad time, if you want to get super lost and ski some fun runs, the hobacks are always a fun and hazardous option anything off the tram is fun, hiking the northern headwall(?) is a great experience. you can never go wrong to be honest

I just skied corbets on Friday, I skied in though as there wasn't any powder. It's scary up top with the wind blowing but not as challenging as some of the chutes at Jackson. The place is fucking amazing, ski around and live it up.
