So I have recently gotten into DJ'ing (complete noob on a shitty controller) and was wondering who else on NS spinssss?

Djing is so much fun! I wish I had more room for an actual studio set up and more money to invest in new gear. I had a choice to invest in DJ/Music Production gear but I chose to invest in a camera since I like to shoot a lot. But anyways play around man trust me you'll get hooked and want to spend so much money into it. Thats the hard part its like having camera lenses you just want more and more without realizing the unrealistic budget you believe you have hahah.

Anyways....

If you haven't tried vynl yet your really missing out. Idk what kind of music you listen to but if you like hip hop/rap and love scratching its so much fun. T

Idk im just ranting but if you want help or advice talk to Lieutenant_Dan one of the most knowledgeable DJ's on Newschoolers no doubt.

Making music is my jam, but I DJ occasionally at local clubs and friends' parties. Nothing huge, biggest thing I've done was a few weeks ago at a club with 4-500 people. DJing is fun, but can't be compared to producing IMO. I think it's cool that producers can make the money they deserve, but feel pretty bad when I get paid for playing other people's music.

Sure, there is an art to it, but it is easily learned (especially in the age of the digital DJ). All it comes down to nowadays is music taste and whether or not you can count to 32. The whole sync vs beatmatch debate is a dead horse that people need to stop beating - comparable to the usual digital vs. analog photography shitstorm.

DJing is incredibly superficial. Everytime you do it people you hardly know start acting like your best friends. Quickly gets to people's heads..

If people stopped overhyping it the world would be a better place.

That aside, it is a fun thing to do. What music do you mix OP?

I typically don't do much live stuff as I am just starting out but I've done parties for friends. I mainly just make quick mixtapes for friends and sometimes longer stuff. I mainly stick with chill wave music but I've done trap and edm too. Like said above production is much more fun and rewarding, but can be extremely expensive. I just started producing this year so I'm still getting familiar with my DAW and hardware, but it is so much fun

I have a Traktor s2. I mix in electronic and rap mostly. I have done EDM before too. I also just got Ableton and and starting out on it. As of now I am confused as hell but I should get it.

Dude, I would fucking love to play around with vinyl but I have unfortunately not been able to yet.



It does seem like all my hobbies are way too fucking expensive.. XD

Honestly I try to mix everything but like I said I'm just starting out.

I get what you're saying, I really kind of wish clubs would go back to having the DJ kind of off to the side where they can watch and control the vibe instead of being the center of attention. Where do you play at??

I am 17 and white and im Not going to lie, at the bunch of school dances ive djed, and Much of the music I played was SchoolBoy Q and A$ap ferg.

Im 16 white and Ive djed 2 dances i use a pioneer DDJ-SB its their intro controller but you can make it sound great. i use serato dj as my software

1.Fucking everything but mainly trap or house
2.Numark NS6
3.Parties, one club, beaches, events.
Djings pretty fun but time consuming, I don't spin much anymore.
