making a box need help

ok im making a box and i need to know if plexi glass would work for the sliding surface cus i have a shit load of it. and if not what should i use. also dose anyone know anyplace where i could get plans for a rail.

I bet plexi glass would work alright. if you have it, use it, why not. But yeah, just frame it with 2x4's then cover the sides and top with plywood, then just sheet the top with plexiglass, but make sure you countersink the screws lower than the surface of the plexi, so theres no hang ups.

be careful the first couple times you hit the plexi glass it slides really fast.

you have to put a coping on the edges of the plexiglass cause if u slide down the edge of it than it breaks off in little chunks so then its just wood on the edge so if u do it again you catch ur edge and u eat shit real hard

^maybe with the cheap lexan or something, but plexiglass won'te chip like that if you slide off the edge, its cool, coping is not required

i just finished my box and we used plexi glass, i got no snow and a broken thumb so im not sure on how it works

you have to make sure u get 1/4' plexiglass cause i hae 1/8' and it breaks off but im pretty sure the 1/4 stuff doesnt break

just take you time on the box, if your afraid do so just ride right on it dont turn. or even step on it with your skis perpediular to it and just move your feet around it and get a feel for it

if your makin a box than you just have to make a frame with 2x4s and use screws not nails
then once u get the frame together put plywood on all the sides and itll make it really strong if the frame is kinda wobly then once u put hte plywood on get ur plexiglass and countersink the holes deeep enough to keep the screw heads beneath the surface cause catching ur edge o the screws really sucks so then screw it on but when u screw it on make sure u stop when its just a little tight cause it u go too far than the plexiglass can crack and itll be weird so just do it carefully
then u have a sick box

I just ordered from http://www.portplastics.com in Denver. This is the company that Keystone uses (as revealed in the latest Freeskier) and they were pretty reasonable on price. I got a 1/2 inch thick peice of UHMW 4 inches X 192 inches for about $60 (no shipping). They have a number of different offices as well. Paul in Denver is cool as shit though.
