Skiing soon after a serious injury

I broke my foot 8 and a half months ago and just had my second surgery yesterday. My Dr. said everything is healed up correctly and I'm cleared to ski next weekend after the stitches come out. My only worry is that my left leg is only about 3/4 the size of my right since I've been on crutches and a boot for 8 and a half months. I can't decide weather or not to attempt to build up some strength before I go to prevent future injury to that leg or if I should go and just take it easy for a while.
Any suggestions?
+k for good feedback

Same situation. I've been on crutches for 9 weeks since knee surgery and still got 3 more to go, then 3 months of rebuilding the muscle before I'm allowed to ski again. Personally, I would build up the strength before you go skiing. Otherwise you're more likely to get injured.

Please build up strength In your legs before you go skiing. It would be awful if you re-injured yourself.
