Im not in HS - but I've been acting like it haha. Well not me. My friend hooked up with another mutual friend last night at the bars. It wasn't even fuckin midnight yet - we're so light its silly. Anyways, I very much like her boyfriend, who is long term status - and our mutual friend is kind of a douche. Entertain me with funny responses or serious responses about what I should do. Or not do. Or good music videos to watch while I nurse myself back to health. I dunno.
When I was in highschool we were passed out by 11pm after at least one person got badly hurt and another person threw up everywhere. No time to hook up with girls so we never had social drama
Chewy.OP, as shitty as this is. He needs to know. Convince your friend to tell him. If not, if he's really that good of a guy, you should tell him.

If you are into him I would suggest giving some time after the break up(if they break up) to show interest. That way he has time to get over things. I know I have been cheated on before and after you get cheated on you need some time to yourself.
this may or may not be a good plan because everyone does things differently when their cheated on. However this is what I would do in a step by step break down:
1.1 Tell friend to tell her BF.
1.2 If friend doesn't tell her BF and he is really a good guy then tell him.
2.1 they may or may not break up
2.2 If they do break up then you can continue reading. If they don't break up stop here.
3.1 They have just broken up, don't be a rebound give him time to gather his thoughts.
3.2 Give it about a week before telling him you like him, but while you're telling him tell him you'd prefer to take things slow at first because you don't want to ruin friendships or jump into anything too quickly. If he agrees with you then you have found your self a winner. Proceed with you're own discretion.
I hope that helps, if not at least I hope I have kind of give you an idea of a direction you could go with things.

Chewy is right though. I've been in that guy's position before(maybe not exactly), I've been cheated on before. Found out my GF told a bunch of her friends and no one told me. Felt as if I was the last to know. Also way I found out was I saw a text that went something like this: "He found a condom wrapper in the garbage. I told him it was from him, but I have no idea where it came from because the one you used was a different color."
Finding out for yourself is probably the worst way it can happen. When someone tells you there is a way to at the very least prepare them for heavy news. Finding out it's like you think everything is fine because someone has been lying to you into thinking everything is ok. Then BAM, no filter, no way to prepare yourself for the unexpected.
I got incredibly angry at the group of people who knew I was cheated on. It's a shitty feeling not knowing, and its a shittier feeling finding out after the fact.
It wont be easy for the poor fellow, but he does need to know sadly.
