Skiing in the Fort Drum/Watertown area?

I recently got orders for Fort Drum, so I'll be stationed there around April. Where are the best places to ski? I've seen there are a few small ski resorts around (dry hill being the closest) what are those little hills like? Looking like a good place to ski during the week ($149 season passes are convincing). What bigger mtns are around? I know Canada isnt far at all. And what kinda snow should i be expecting during the winter like typical east coast or are they constantly getting dumped on?

Dude prepare for lake effect snow... Fresh POW! The only place i've been to up there was Snow Ridge in Turin, Ny. Small hill but so much yearly snow! Get in with the locals or one or two dudes on here can help too to locate the glade skiing they do there. I went there for opening day this year and it was no man made. It was 35" of freshies from the past week

I've also heard McCauley Mountain up there is a great little place to ski with tons of lake effect snow. Best part about those small mountains besides the snow are the cheap lift tickets. In fact, Snow Ridge has a military discount and I'm sure the others do too

I wouldn't under estimate the amount of fun those little places have to offer especially after some fluffy lake effect

i live in watertown. easily the best place is snow ridge they constantly get dumped on. last year they got 240" of snow. 22 rails and a decent park setup. super sttep glades and contant powder is the best part.
