FKS 140 Brake cost

for the brake bending, it depends on how you ride. i was sending some pretty decent sized saftey 180s into some deep pow, double ejected and got a small bend. i just bent it back to normal and didnt have a problem. but say that happened on hard pack, youd probly have a good bend (depending on big of a jump it is) but other than that instance, i havent had any problems with my fks brakes and ive had some pretty bad wrecks riding switch and normal

New brakes for FKS/Pivots are $75 on Evo so brakes are pretty expensive in comparison to other non FKS/Pivot brakes. How often they break is completely dependent on what type of riding you are doing. If you're doing a lot big switch landings and park riding then the likelihood of them braking is a lot more than if you are just skiing groomers. However most of the time the brakes 'arms' will just bend and not become unusable.
Replacing them is also quite challenging much more difficult than other bindings such as Attacks and STH2's.

For cheaper than the FKS 140's you could pick up a set of Salomon/Atomic STH2 13's which are very good bindings, just as good as FKS (IMO) and you don't have to deal with the brake problems.

negro mancer is on point. basically what i said but a lot better. and for the sth2 ive tried to do some research. there isnt much info out on the sth2, but they actually have slightly more elasticity than the fks, and brakes are easily swapped out.

They are a bit bigger and bulkier and that was always the appeal of fks : it had the least reduction on the natural flex of the ski because it was very short mounting.

I do have a bit of a problem with nose press in my sth- I rear eject if don't pop a little bit. I believe this is a problem with the guy who set up the bindings, though. I had bought new boots from a local sporting goods store, but they had a great price on a pair of dalbellos in my (big and wide and rare) size. They said included with the boot, they would remount bindings at core center ( bigger last, heel all the way back already), adjust bindings, set din, check on the machine, and tune/wax the skis. The wax job was shabby, so I suspect the heel is not adjusted properly and I haven't got around to tightening it. I don't nose press much, so it doesn't bother me.
But other than this, they are great, I don't have any problems with the sth.

If they are breaking off often for him then hes going down and ejecting hard switch a lot, and I mean really hard. Ive had two seasons on my FKSs and have ejected pretty hard switch on several occasions, all that resulted was a bend that a little manpower fixed every time. Sure, my brakes arent pretty anymore but if you think I care about that youre kidding yourself. Favorite binding Ive ever had, awesome control/response on the ski, almost never pre-release, super easy to step into. In my opinion well worth the risk you might have to pay a little $ to replace a brake (and honestly on FKSs if you do happen to fuck up the break, the heel piece still works just as well without it, unlike other bindings where if the whole break is gone your heel has nothing to sit on)
