Traveling with skis

i'd say it depends. personally, i've got a dakine ski bag w rollers that'll hold my poles, park skis, and pow skis, so that's what i fly with. way cheaper than renting for a week +. if you've only got one set of sticks, and are only skiing a day or two, just demo some nice sticks.

another thing to think of, most rental bindings blow ass.

i am not a huge fan of renting skis, for 2 reasons. first i dont want to mess with some massive line to get some skis and wait for them to be set up with my boots, and the bindings typically do suck ass, the nicest ones i have seen are only 12 din bindings, usually 10 they weigh a ton and i have broken the heal piece off a couple of times so then it is back to the shop... secondly, i love my quiver and if i am going to throw down the cash to go on a trip i want to ski on MY skis. i have a bag with rollers that use on every trip my bag has enough room for 2-3 pairs of skis and room for pants and jacket so i only check one bag.

anyway that is my 2cents on the matter

i head to summit every spring and try to ski 5 times or so when i am out there. Since I go more than once or twice, the best option is to bring 'em. Fly Southwest - bags go free. You can put your jacket and snowpants around your skis in your ski bag, then your boots in your travel suitcase with other clothes. Then pack your carry-on with whatever else you need, and your all set - without incurring additional bag fees! Of course, flying Southwest is a bit more expensive, but the extra money for the ticket is much less than checking two bags on another airline. good luck!!!

However, if youre going only once or twice, maybe just consider renting? You could even splurge and get some high performance rentals and demo some skis that have always seemed fun. I always say im going to try some YLEs when I go to CO - but im a pussy and never have haha

DEFINITELY southwest. Flew with 3 other people and had a total of 12 bags to check. Zero dollars. Careful of the 50lb rule tho..

I personally recromend this. But if you go to this place enough (5+ times a year), it might be worth it to find some storage unit or a friend house/apartment. So you can fly up, drive, get your gear on and ski.

Buy a ski bag and put the skis in it? What kind of tips do you need? It's pretty simple stuff.

Pro tip: the Denver airport has a ski bag carousel. Tempting as it may he to ride it into the back room don't do it. You can get arrested.

Just bring your skis on your flight and put them in the overhead, if anyone asks, just tell them your name is gus and your going to visit your puppies and didnt have time to grab your ski bag.
